General Function Responsible for assisting the Dairy Department Manager in presenting the freshest, most innovative, and highest‑quality products at a competitive retail price while maintaining a positive company image through courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service.

Reporting Relations Accountable and reports to: District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Manager of Store Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness Home, and Dairy Department Manager.
Positions that report to you: Dairy Clerks, Part‑time employees.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service, treating customers as the most important people in the store.
Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner throughout the store.
Make an effort to learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible.
Assist customers by:
Escorting them to the products they’re looking for
Securing products that are out of reach
Loading or unloading heavy items
Passing along customer suggestions or requests
Performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience
Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to callers.
Review the appearance of coolers, freezers, faces, replenish, and remove damaged or outdated products.
Ensure department standards are met.
Oversee part‑time dairy and frozen employees—outline duties, train, and follow up to ensure completion.
Train new employees.
Handle and satisfy customer issues.
Maintain a clean and neat department, including cleaning cases and shelves, and sweeping floors.
Receive deliveries, put product away, review invoices, and log daily in the record book.
Practice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean and neat.
Adhere to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress.
Follow company policies and individual store guidelines.
Report to work when scheduled and on time.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
Assume management duties in the absence of the Department Manager.
Order for the department when necessary.
Assist in other areas of the store as needed.
Perform other job‑related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics
Ability to solve practical problems involving limited standardization and interpret instructions.
Ability to perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
Ability to file, post, and mail materials; copy data from one record to another; interview to obtain basic information; guide people and provide basic direction.
Education and Experience High school or equivalent experience and six months to one year of similar or related experience.
Supervisory Responsibilities (Direct Reports)
Instruct, assign, review, and plan the work of others.
Maintain standards, coordinate activities, and address employee problems.
Authority to recommend employee discipline.
Physical Requirements
Perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; up to 20 pounds frequently; up to 10 pounds constantly.
Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distances from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet, with or without correction; field of vision; color vision; depth perception.
Perform physical activities such as balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, gripping, and repetitive motions.
Working Conditions Position exposed to noise, temperature extremes, dampness, and equipment movement hazards; fast‑paced work environment.
Equipment Used Pallet jack, box cutter, cash registers, trash compactor, calculator, telephone, intercom, cardboard compactors, copier, fax.
Contacts Daily contact with customers, suppliers/vendors, and the general public. Occasional contact with federal/state regulatory agencies for inspections.
Salary Hourly starting wage $17.00 to $21.25, depending on experience.
