UC Health is hiring a part-time Lab Technician for the phlebotomy department for first shift at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required and formal phlebotomy training program / externship.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of specimen requirements; familiarity with laboratory terminology, turnaround times, and the ability to read and comprehend written information.
  • Keyboarding skills and ability to perform in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to provide effective customer service in accordance with hospital RITE values.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture, skin puncture, or other special collection technique.
  • Follow proper patient identification protocols and established blood collection protocols.
  • Access specimens into Laboratory Information System (LIS) ensuring demographic information is accurate and complete.
  • Prioritize workload to ensure specimen collection and transport to the laboratory is completed in a timely manner.
  • Clean and stock phlebotomy cart/tray and workstation at end of shift.
  • Deliver specimens to the various testing departments and ensure all specimens are accounted for at the end of shift.
  • Communicate the status of uncompleted collections and monitor Mobile Care Phlebotomy System.
  • Provide excellent customer service and answer phone inquiries demonstrating RITE values.
  • Perform safety and quality checks: centrifugation, aliquoting, stabilizing for transport, measuring volume, and assessing adequacy of specimens for testing.
  • Train associates/students in phlebotomy/processing tasks and complete all mandatory competencies and training modules.
  • Participate in staffing meetings and follow all department and hospital policies and procedures.
