Job Summary

Our CVICU is expanding, and we are looking for Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants) who are seeking a challenging career in Cardiac Critical Care in one of the leading Heart Transplant Centers in the world. The Critical Care Nurse Practitioner (NP) works in collaboration with a multidisciplinary health care team. The NP provides healthcare in critical care settings, including surgical and medical ICUs. The NP has didactic education, clinical competency and national certification in identified area of clinical practice. The NP demonstrates medical knowledge, clinical judgment, technical competence, professionalism, interpersonal communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and is responsible for professional development and competency validation. The NP has an advanced knowledge of nursing theory and application.

Sign-On $15,000 Sign On Bonus for Candidates with a minimum of 1 or more years of Critical Care Nurse Practitioner or Critical Care Physician Assistant experience* * The sign-on bonus is not applicable to current VUMC staff or former staff who have worked for VUMC in the past twelve months. The sign-on bonus is only available for full-time positions. Previous APP experience in a CVICU setting or previous RN experience in an ICU setting is preferred. Position Hours Full-Time Night Shift Three 13-Hour Shifts Per Week

Department Summary

The Vanderbilt Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) utilizes a multidisciplinary approach specializing in the care of adult general and congenital cardiology, cardiac surgery, thoracic, transplant, and vascular patients. Our mission is to provide the highest level of care by applying evidence-based practice, compassion, education in caring for our patients and their loved ones. The CVICU upholds a culture of change in order to adapt to a dynamic and challenging healthcare system. The CVICU promotes a respectful, team-oriented, quality-focused work environment that is inviting and gratifying to all patients, family members, and staff. Cardiovascular care includes: pre- & post-cardiac surgery pre- & post-vascular surgery heart failure STEMI Post-PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention) cardiac arrhythmias structural heart disease post-cardiac arrest ECMO heart, lung transplant mechanical assist devices

Key Responsibilities

Obtains and documents a health history; performs and documents complete, system-focused, or symptom-specific physical examination, assessment and plan of care. In collaboration, provides healthcare services for primary, acute and complex care of patients and manages patient's overall care, identifying expected outcomes for diagnoses. Orders, performs, interprets and collects data using appropriate assessment techniques, relevant supporting diagnostic information and diagnostic procedures where indicated. Forms differential diagnoses and treats acute and chronic conditions. Prescribes therapeutic interventions both pharmacologic, non-pharmacologic and surgical, needed to achieve expected outcomes. Utilizes evidence-based, approved practice protocols in planning and implementing care; Initiates appropriate referrals and consultations; Provides specialty specific consultation services upon request and within specialty scope of practice; Facilitates the patient\'s transition between and within health care settings, such as admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
