We are seeking a Staff Accountant whose primary responsibility is to assist with monthly accounting processes, including closing activities, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.

What you’ll do: General Accounting – 45%

Complete monthly / quarterly financial close procedures in accordance with Company policies, closing timelines and GAAP; Closing activities include preparing standard journal entries, balance sheet account reconciliations, and reporting

Review balance sheet accounts and prepare adjusting entries as needed

Ensure assigned reconciliations are prepared monthly and provided to the Assistant Controller for review timely in accordance with the Company account reconciliation policy

Responsible for ensuring CoStar (lease accounting system) is updated timely when lease agreements are entered in to; In addition, this role will be responsible for preparing lease entries monthly in accordance with ASC842

Partners with the business to track assigned month‑end accruals ensuring expenses are recorded in the proper month

Prepares monthly depreciation expense entries

Responsible for assisting in updating the fixed asset subledger when new assets are acquired, as well as assisting in updating EMCOR Corporate Tax asset software; systems must balance monthly

Assists with overseeing accounts payable and accounts receivable to ensure transactions are posted timely and accurately to the correct jobs and accounts; Prepare correcting entries as needed based on reviews

Works with the Assistant Controller on preparing analyses of monthly expense trends, risks and opportunities. May assist with the elements in the preparation of the annual budget and monthly analytics on variances

Provide ad hoc reporting / documentation as requested

Cash Management – 35%

Completes daily cash receipts and application as assigned; Ensures variances are communicated, researched and resolved timely

Responsible for monthly account reconciliation of all bank accounts

Tax Accounting – 15%

Prepares monthly account reconciliations for all local unions, payroll, and sales / use tax accounts; Ensures variances are communicated, researched and resolved timely

Assists the Assistant Controller with the preparation of assigned tax filings in accordance with Government deadlines

Internal Controls – 5%

Assists the Assistant Controller with the maintenance of assigned internal control documentation; Makes updates as needed to ensure our internal control environment is consistently upgraded as the business changes

Complete periodic checks of controls to ensure they are functioning as intended. Implement remediation plans designed by the Assistant Controller as needed

Assists the Assistant Controller in maintaining and updating the general ledger system, ensuring the integrity of our financial data

Conduct monthly physical inventory counts and reconcile any discrepancies

What you’ll need (minimum qualifications):

Bachelor’s degree in accounting from an accredited college or university required

Must have a basic understanding of GAAP; public company reporting and accounting process knowledge a plus

Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) and general computer skills

Leadership skills and attention to detail a must; must be meticulous with final work products

Ability to work independently and handle changing priorities in a high-volume transactional environment

Highly motivated and dedicated to contributing to the growth and success of the company

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Nice to have:

Viewpoint Vista experience a plus

Construction industry experience a plus

Master’s degree or CPA highly preferred

Prior work experience of general accounting or finance
