Position Overview
Senior Operations Engineer - Renewable at NextEra Energy, Inc. focuses on analytics and reporting for wind, solar, and storage operations across the fleet.
Responsibilities
Lead operational assessments for wind, solar, and storage assets, synthesizing SCADA, historian, and market data into clear findings and actions.
Create and own production profiles for financial analysis and budget setting; ensure traceability and transparency of assumptions.
Perform asset performance diagnostics and collaborate on root‑cause analysis to resolve underperformance and chronic issues.
Develop and refine techniques, models, and processes to predict and mitigate production variances, including bias detection and correction.
Own month‑end performance reporting, coordinating timely inputs from partnering business units and ensuring data quality and reconciliation.
Oversee end‑to‑end deliverables and processes for operational assessments, budget support, generation/economic entitlement (GenE), and related fleet reporting.
Present insights, risks, and recommendations to operational and risk committees; influence decisions with clear trade‑off framing.
Establish best practices, documentation, and QA standards; mentor and upskill team members in methods, tools, and domain knowledge.
Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Meteorology, Data Science, Statistics, Physics, or related field.
4+ years of experience in power generation or renewables analytics (wind/solar/storage), operations engineering, or equivalent applied analytics role.
Proficiency with data analysis and scripting (e.g., R, Python); strong statistics and time‑series fundamentals.
Experience with production data sources and systems (e.g., SCADA) and performance diagnostics.
Working knowledge of generation/economic entitlement concepts, curtailment, availability/energy capture metrics, and budget/forecast translation.
Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex analyses, drive cross‑functional alignment, and communicate clearly to executive audiences.
Applied AI/ML for operational analytics on production data, including problem framing, feature design, model validation, and communicating limitations; experience with forecasting, anomaly detection, and classification/regression techniques.
Ability to operationalize analytics (models, rules, heuristics) into reliable workflows with versioning, automated testing, scheduling, monitoring, and performance/drift tracking across cloud or on‑prem environments.
Responsible AI practices: awareness of model risk and bias, appropriate explainability for non‑technical stakeholders, reproducibility, and sound documentation.
Effective use of AI assistants to accelerate analytics, documentation, and reporting within data governance and security guardrails.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a related field.
Salary The estimated base pay for this position is $116,000.00 to $174,000.00 per year.
