Responsibilities
As a Principal Engineer, you’ll be a subject matter expert in power uprate evaluations and implementation. You’ll work on dynamic, high‑impact projects that require deep knowledge of nuclear systems engineering, plant design analysis, and design modifications.
Legacy & Leadership: Pass on your expertise and shape the next generation of nuclear professionals.
Strategic Impact: Power uprates are a key part of the U.S. clean energy strategy, driving reactor output and extending plant lifespans.
Influence & Collaboration: Work closely with senior stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and multidisciplinary teams to guide high‑impact projects.
Mentorship & Culture Building: Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous learning.
Design Margin Evaluation: Conduct detailed engineering studies to assess available design margins across nuclear plant systems.
System Impact Analysis: Evaluate impact of increased power levels on plant systems, identifying bottlenecks and proposing solutions.
Modification Identification & Scoping: Determine necessary plant modifications, develop scopes of work, and support cost‑benefit analyses.
Cross‑Disciplinary Coordination: Collaborate with design engineering, licensing, operations, and maintenance teams.
Documentation & Reporting: Prepare technical reports, design change packages, and presentations for stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
Vendor & Contractor Interface: Support engagement with external vendors and contractors for specialized studies and equipment upgrades.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or related discipline) from an ABET accredited university.
10+ years of relevant experience in nuclear engineering, with a focus on power uprates.
PE license or progress toward licensure is a plus.
Experience evaluating large‑scale power generation systems following industry accepted electrical codes and standards such as IEEE, IEC, NEC, and NERC; preferably in nuclear.
Proficiency in understanding highly technical topics using textbooks, white papers, and industry studies.
Experience performing engineering studies and analysis in Electrical, Mechanical, and Civil/Structural disciplines, including load flow, short‑circuit, thermal‑hydraulic modeling, and structural load assessments.
Pay Range USD $130,000.00 - USD $180,000.00 / Yr.
