Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering (AY 26/27)
California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) is inviting applications for a full‑time, academic‑year, tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2026 in the Electrical Engineering Department.
Cal Poly has a tradition of excellence in teaching and scholarship that supports a curriculum centered on a “Learn by Doing” philosophy and focused on preparing graduates to make a positive impact on their world day one. Cal Poly is committed to the teacher‑scholar model. As teachers, faculty are expected to exhibit strong pedagogic skills and to remain proficient and current in their disciplines.
We seek candidates with a strong interest in undergraduate teaching, broad‑based knowledge and teaching interests, and the ability to integrate that knowledge across the electrical engineering curriculum. Candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to project‑based and hands‑on learning and engagement in research collaborations with undergraduates and master’s students.
Professional expertise in one or more of the following areas:
Board‑Level Electronic Systems and Applications
Sensing, Actuation, and Controls, including Robotics
Systems Engineering and Project Management applied to Electronic Products or Large‑scale Systems including Power
Demonstrated ability to develop an externally funded, applied research program that involves undergraduate and graduate students, and partnerships with key stakeholders.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and strong interests in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
Proficiency in written and oral use of the English language.
Required Qualifications
An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution or international equivalent. Candidates nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) will be considered but must provide proof that the doctorate was awarded prior to or by the start of the appointment.
Excellence in teaching and effective communication.
Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and faculty.
Experience in collaborating with diverse populations and fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated strong professional development.
Laboratory‑based instruction experience and/or industry experience.
Experience working with diverse populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive, and inclusive environment.
