Position Summary Manages the operational, technical, and financial aspects of assigned laboratory section(s). Sets the professional standard by which the section(s) operates, implements the clinical, operational, fiscal, and quality programs of the laboratory, and ensures full compliance with all regulatory requirements while aligning with the goals of the institution, the Department of Laboratory Medicine, and the needs of the clinicians.

Key Responsibilities

Managing the supervisors and staff of a lab section, ensuring all work performed is accurate and completed within established or agreed upon turn‑around times.

Providing leadership and guidance in the development and evaluation of clinical practice, technical, and departmental procedures, and promoting professionalism.

Developing, implementing, and evaluating new methods, techniques, or equipment, and making recommendations to the director.

Developing and implementing equitable criteria and processes for selection, evaluation, promotion, and termination of all staff within the designated area of responsibility.

Interviewing, selecting, promoting, disciplining, and discharging employees in accordance with personnel policy and practice.

Reviewing performance appraisals and proposed merit increases, ensuring consistency among employees.

Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, laws, and requirements of requisite agencies through appropriate systems and processes.

Developing, evaluating, and holding accountable for meeting section budget.

Leading individuals and work groups to continuously improve performance by applying quality principles and techniques.

Coordinating research studies as determined by the director(s).

Maintaining professional liaisons with area schools and universities.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science.

Experience

3 years of clinical laboratory supervisory experience.

Certification / Registration Required

Current registration/certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) in one of the following:

Certified Medical Technologist (ASCP)

Certified Technician in Hematology

Certified Technician in Chemistry

Certified Technician in Microbiology

Certified Technician in Immunology

Certified Technician in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Immunology.

Blood Banking certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)

Registered Microbiology from the American Association of Microbiology (AAM)

Certified Point‑of‑Care Testing Professional (CPP) from the ADLM Board of Certification
