Tax Experienced Manager, ASC740
BDO USA is seeking an experienced Tax Manager to serve as the Lead Advisor for clients on complex ASC 740 and corporate tax matters. The candidate will manage client engagements, supervise associate work, and ensure compliance with tax regulations while maintaining BDO’s high standards of quality and integrity.
Job Summary The Core Tax Services (CTS) Experienced Manager – ASC 740 will:
Advise clients on tax implications of business objectives and select actions to reduce tax burden.
Act as the primary client contact for complex corporate tax and ASC 740 issues.
Apply and communicate knowledge of potential tax risks, policy changes, and ASC 740 compliance requirements.
Responsibilities
Tax Compliance
Ensure client compliance with all applicable authorities and BDO policies.
Conduct top‑level tax return reviews and resolve issues in collaboration with specialists.
Manage budgeting, staffing, and engagement timelines; oversee billing, collections, and out‑of‑scope work.
Communicate findings to clients and assurance teams and provide timely advice.
Research
Identify and research complex tax issues and present clear analysis to clients and the engagement team.
Train managers and staff on research methodology and ASC 740 matters.
Involve firm specialists when necessary.
ASC 740 Tax Accruals
Apply BDO Tax Quality Manual and firm policies to ASC 740 accrual reviews.
Explain income tax provision components and uncertain tax positions to clients.
Collaborate with assurance teams on budgeting, scoping, and delivery dates.
Review prepared workpapers and manage use of specialized tax services.
Tax Consulting
Develop and implement strategies to reduce client tax liabilities.
Identify applicable CTS and STS consulting specialties and coordinate service delivery.
Serve as a technical resource and provide exam support guidance.
Tax Specialization
Maintain in‑depth knowledge of a tax specialization (e.g., corporate, international, transfer pricing).
Organize and conduct internal CPE training sessions.
Mentor managers and associates on ASC 740 and other technical topics.
Strategy Development
Create new or improved client strategies to reduce taxes or expenses.
Present complex strategies to clients and internal teams.
Lead marketing initiatives when applicable and collaborate with national tax teams.
Other Duties
as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise associates and senior associates across all projects.
Review work and provide feedback; train on software tools.
Act as a career advisor and manage associates’ workload.
Qualifications
Education
– Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Taxation (required); Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
– 6+ years of ASC 740 experience, including supervising client engagements; multinational client exposure preferred.
License/Certification
– CPA, Attorney (U.S. jurisdiction), or Enrolled Agent required.
Software
– Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, and tax compliance software (GoFileRoom, Caseware, BNA, etc.) preferred.
Skills and Abilities

Strong analytical and research skills.
Team leadership and client relationship management.
Ability to delegate and develop staff.
Compensation California: $115,000 – $165,000 Colorado: $100,000 – $150,000 Illinois: $120,000 – $139,000 Maryland: $121,000 – $145,000 Massachusetts: $130,000 – $147,750 Minnesota: $100,000 – $130,000 New Jersey: $130,000 – $165,000 NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $170,000 – $185,000 Washington: $100,000 – $145,000 Washington DC: $140,000 – $162,000
