Summary Assists the Mohs surgeon by providing and controlling surgical instruments and equipment during Mohs stages. Ensures that instruments and supplies are cleaned, sterilized and available as needed. Provides hands‑on assisting with Mohs procedures and wound closures/repairs. Assists with lab/pathology processing of Mohs specimens, accurately preparing and processing histologic specimens for microscopic evaluation. Additionally assists the dermatologist providers in day‑to‑day dermatology patient flow.
Position Reports To Practice Manager
Essential Functions
Opens sterile supplies and sets up for each procedure.
Assists Mohs surgeon during procedure according to prescribed standards. Assists and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
Sets up procedure room, according to prescribed standards.
Assists Mohs surgeon throughout the procedure with instruments, and providing hands‑on assistance, according to prescribed standards.
Dress and provide wound care instruction for the surgery site.
Takes appropriate photographs of Mohs stages. Labels and organizes photographs.
Handles specimens for pathology according to prescribed standards. Sterilization and aseptic technique.
Demonstrated expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique and universal precautions.
Knowledge of and ability to disinfect, clean and sterilize surgical instruments, equipment and supplies.
Assist in procedure room maintenance, including case preparation, room turnover, and instrument processing.
Prepares microscopic tissue slides for the Mohs Surgeon, including processing, embedding, cutting and staining of frozen tissue specimens.
Required to maintain active Basic Life Support (CPR) certification.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
High School Diploma or GED.
Accredited Medical Assisting program graduate, or enrolled in externship program.
Active Medical Assistant Interim (IC) or Medical Assistant.
Certified (CM) license through the Washington State Department of Health.
Maintain active Surgical Technologist licensure with Washington State Department of Health (apply upon hire, paid by department).
Desired
Previous experience as a Medical Assistant in an ambulatory care setting.

Work is performed at a workstation desk and in patient exam and treatment rooms, where space may be limited and confined. Requires both independent work and close collaboration with others. Hours may be irregular; overtime may be required. Requires working under stressful conditions. General supervision is provided by the Practice Manager with additional instructions, guidance, and directions from physicians or providers.
