Position Overview Instructors will implement a rigorous college‑prep curriculum for motivated 9th‑ and 10th‑grade scholars, supporting their journey to competitive colleges. Using our original curriculum and student‑centered methods, instructors act as coaches and facilitators, promoting depth of understanding and skill acquisition.

The start and programming dates depend on grade level placement.

9th Grade:

Instructor orientation Saturday, 28 Feb 2026 9:00‑14:00. Saturday Academy meetings on 14 Mar, 21 Mar, 28 Mar, 11 Apr, 18 Apr, 25 Apr, 02 May, 09 May.

10th Grade:

Instructor orientation Saturday, 24 Jan 2026 9:00‑14:00. Saturday Academy meetings on 31 Jan, 07 Feb, 14 Feb, 07 Mar, 14 Mar, 21 Mar, 01 Apr, 18 Apr, 25 Apr, 09 May.

Schedule:

Math instructors teach four 50‑minute lessons to two groups of ~25‑30 scholars. Instructional prep period and varying individual schedules within 9 am‑4 pm.

Weekly Hours:

10 maximum hours per week (6 standard on Saturdays, up to 4 flex on other days). Flex hours for preparation, grading, communication.

Key Responsibilities

Teach four periods of math content, following lesson plans and meeting objectives. Use protocols for discussion, group work, and questioning to promote depth of understanding.

Navigate and use instructional technologies: Brightspace, Nearpod, Google Workspace, Zoom chat.

Prepare lessons in advance and adjust pacing/activities based on student needs.

Grade and record student performance, providing timely, growth‑oriented feedback. Maintain Brightspace gradebook.

Create an energetic, engaging classroom culture that fosters student connection to content.

Collaborate with staff, attend scheduled meetings, trainings, and respond promptly to emails/Zoom chats.

Meet with instructional coach at least twice during the semester to receive feedback and implement recommendations aligned with SEO’s Indicators of Effective Instruction.

Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

High‑school classroom teaching experience.

Comfortable with and skillful in using technological learning systems.

Experience with student‑centered pedagogy.

Expertise in advanced high‑school mathematics (Algebra & Trigonometry).

Preferred

Secondary Education degree and certification.

Experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL).

Certifications, PD courses, or tertiary education in Instructional Technologies.

Willingness to engage in conversations about societal issues and challenges.

1‑hour interview & demo lesson on Zoom. Demonstrate lesson using Desmos.

Teaching certification not required.

Compensation & Hours Competitive hourly rate starting at $50/hour. Position averages 10 hours per week. This position is benefits‑ineligible according to local, state, and federal regulations.
