Summary:Public Montessori Initiative, a non-profit organization that supports public Montessori efforts through programming, training, and staffing, is expanding its accounting team. PMI currently engages an outsourced Controller and Accountant for financial reporting responsibilities. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Part-Time Accounting and Payroll Clerk to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for a variety of accounting and payroll tasks, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all financial records in preparation for the month-end close and annual audit process. The position reports directly to the Executive Director and collaborates with the Outsourced Accounting Team when necessary. The position is anticipated to require 10-15 hours per week, with the potential to grow after a probationary period. Some on-site work may be required, but remote work may be possible for candidates who live in or near Gresham. This position requires strong attention to detail, a high level of confidentiality, and the ability to learn software and new tasks quickly. Key Responsibilities:Payroll Processing:The clerk provides initial payroll processing support.Manage and maintain employee payroll setup in the HRIS, including new hires, terminations, and changes to employee information.High-level issue spotting in timecards, benefits setup, and payroll settings.Maintain confidential employee payroll records.Accounts Payable/Receivable:Process and enter accounts payable invoices and expense reports.Prepare and process vendor payments (e.g., checks, Bill.com, autopay).Reconcile vendor statements.Assist with accounts receivable tasks, including invoicing customers and tracking payments.General Accounting & Bookkeeping:Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.Maintain and organize financial documents and records.Assist Controller with month-end close and general ledger duties as needed.Administrative & Other Duties:Assist with various administrative tasks as assigned by management.Establish regular work schedule, including weekly accounting call with Executive Director and Outsourced Accounting Team.Qualifications:Strong understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles.Excellent data entry skills with a high degree of accuracy and speed.Solid understanding of payroll processes.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information.Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.Education:Associate's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.Equivalent work experience will be considered.PMI is an equal opportunity employer.
