Remote (U.S.-Based) – Must reside in Chicago or the broader Midwest region. Full‑Time | Monday–Friday | 9 AM – 5 PM EST. Travel as needed for hearings, interviews, or occasional team meetings. What You’ll Do
As our Associate Attorney – Removal Defense Specialist, you will lead complex removal defense cases and represent clients in EOIR proceedings, while collaborating with a supportive team of attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants. Key Responsibilities
Represent clients in removal proceedings (EOIR), including master calendar and individual hearings. Prepare and file applications for relief: asylum, cancellation of removal, waivers, motions to reopen, and appeals. Draft briefs, motions, RFEs, supporting legal documentation, and advocacy work. Supervise and support preparation of case files with assistance from legal staff. Conduct client interviews and prepare clients and witnesses for hearings. Collaborate with Managing Attorney on firm process and case loads. Monitor legal and policy updates relevant to removal defense and adjust strategy accordingly. Occasionally work on related matters such as VAWA, U visa, or family‑based petitions, based on need. Who You Are
You’re a passionate litigator and thoughtful advocate, especially in the courtroom. You bring a balanced mix of confidence, empathy, and grit to your work. Ideal Candidates Will Have
A Juris Doctorate and active license in any U.S. state. 5+ years of immigration law experience, with 3+ years focused on removal defense. Proven experience representing clients in EOIR hearings. Strong legal writing skills and familiarity with motions, appeals, and supporting evidence. Comfort with trauma‑informed representation and working with diverse communities. Residence in or near Chicago or the Midwest, with ability to travel to local courts. Spanish or other language fluency (preferred, not required). What We Offer
