Shape the future of digital defense.
Our Digital Modernization sector is at the forefront of next-generation technology, architecting cutting-edge solutions in cyber defense, logistics optimization, security operations, and decision intelligence. We're the minds behind the mission-critical systems that keep our nation secure.
Ready to engineer solutions that matter?
The Digital Modernization Sector at Leidos is seeking a dynamic Senior Network Engineer to support cloud modernization initiatives for the United States Coast Guard (USCG) at Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Cyber, and Intelligence Service Center (C5ISC) in the Alexandria, VA area. This role is part of a high-impact program focused on delivering secure, scalable cloud solutions that enable operational agility and resilience across the USCG enterprise.
As a network engineer, you will have deep experience designing and securing cloud-based network architecture, with hands‑on expertise in F5, Versa Networks SD‑WAN and security solutions. This role is essential to ensuring secure, scalable, and resilient connectivity across hybrid and multi-cloud environments. You’ll work closely with cloud engineers, cybersecurity analysts, and program leadership to drive continuous improvement and deliver value to the mission.
Primary Tasks
Design, implement, and maintain secure cloud network architectures in AWS, Azure, and hybrid environments
Integrate cloud networks with on‑premises DoD infrastructure using VPNs, Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, and SD‑WAN
Implement network segmentation, Zero Trust principles, and policy‑based access controls
Automate network provisioning using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and Ansible
Monitor network performance and troubleshoot connectivity issues using tools like CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, and packet capture utilities
Ensure compliance with DoD cybersecurity frameworks including DISA STIGs, NIST 800‑53, and RMF
Collaborate with cybersecurity, cloud engineering, and application teams to support secure mission delivery
Maintain detailed network documentation, diagrams, and standard operating procedures
Promote continuous improvement through feedback loops and process refinement
Ensure alignment with USCG mission priorities and Leidos delivery standards
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Information Systems, Business)
12+ years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Cloud Infrastructure roles
Hands‑on experience with Versa Networks SD‑WAN and security platforms
Experience configuring and managing F5 BIG‑IP LTM, GTM, and ASM modules
Proficiency in AWS and/or Azure networking services (VPCs, VNets, Transit Gateway, NSGs, Route Tables)
Strong understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, DNS, NAT, and VPN technologies
Familiarity with Zero Trust Architecture and DoD cloud security requirements
Scripting and automation experience (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
Excellent facilitation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
Ability to work in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment
Certifications such as Versa Certified SD‑WAN Engineer, F5‑CTS, AWS Advanced Networking, or Azure Network Engineer Associate
Must be a U.S. Citizen and have a Public Trust and be able to obtain a SECRET clearance
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of ICAM integration and cross‑domain solutions
Prior experience supporting DHS, USCG, or other federal cloud modernization efforts
Strong documentation, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills
Experience working with technical teams in cloud, cybersecurity, or enterprise IT environments
At Leidos, we don’t want someone who 'fits the mold'—we want someone who melts it down and builds something better. This is a role for the restless, the over‑caffeinated, the ones who ask, “what’s next?” before the dust settles on “what’s now.”
If you’re already scheming step 20 while everyone else is still debating step 2… good. You’ll fit right in.
