Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Counseling Charleston Southern University invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant or Associate Professor of Counselor Education & Supervision, beginning Fall 2026.

Role Description This position may be remote or in‑person (Charleston, SC). The majority of instruction is delivered virtually in synchronous evening classes. Faculty are also expected to participate in the annual one‑week August residency on‑campus in Charleston, joining doctoral and master’s‑level students for in‑person teaching and mentorship.

We are seeking a Christ‑centered counselor educator with a Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision who demonstrates excellence in teaching, a clearly established research line, and a deep commitment to integrating Christian faith and scholarship within counselor education. The selected candidate will teach across both the CACREP‑accredited M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program and the new Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision, launching in Fall 2026.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Counselor Education & Supervision from a CACREP‑accredited program (required).

Evidence of an active research line with peer‑reviewed publications and ongoing scholarly projects.

Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching in counselor education.

Licensed or license‑eligible as a professional counselor in current state of residence.

Professional experience in clinical counseling settings.

Identification with and professional service to the counseling profession through professional memberships and service.

Familiarity with CACREP standards, online andragogy, and innovative teaching technologies.

Proficient in integrating faith and learning in counselor education.

Key Responsibilities

Teach master’s and doctoral‑level courses online (synchronous/asynchronous) and help facilitate Fall semester residencies for both programs at Charleston Southern University.

Serve as core faculty for both programs.

Chair and serve on dissertation committees, mentoring doctoral students through the research process.

Contribute to curriculum design, assessment, and accreditation (CACREP and SACSCOC).

Supervise counseling student‑interns and coordinate with field sites.

Maintain an active scholarly research agenda, with publications, presentations, and/or grant activity.

Advise and mentor graduate students in professional identity, ethical practice, and spiritual formation.

Participate in university service.

Preferred Attributes

Experience chairing or mentoring doctoral dissertations.

Evidence of faith‑integrated scholarship and/or community service that portrays a commitment to Christian values.
