Purpose of Role The Developer I – Footwear will support driving footwear product development from brief to confirm for production (Buy ready). This individual will focus on development through footwear best practices & standards, find technical solutions, build at cost, align to UA’s sustainability strategy, and adhere to product integrity via consumer satisfaction and UA’s Footwear requirements.

Your Impact

Utilize advanced pattern engineering skills and costing/quality implications, model making, part drawings, drafting, 2D documentation, 3D, mold making, materials, customs, patents, and most aspects of the manufacturing processes.

Lead and manage multiple projects from brief stage through design, development, costing, and commercialization.

Plan and execute project development according to seasonal critical dates, ensuring on‑time delivery of sales samples and production confirmation.

Consult with design and development teammates to ensure manufacturability and meet cost and quality objectives.

Support Asia development trips as needed to work with manufacturers and suppliers on existing and current development projects.

Recommend and specify material, component, and construction options to meet pricing targets and product functional goals, ensuring performance integrity through product testing.

Lead meetings with product teams during various phases of development to review, evaluate, update, and drive decision‑making toward on‑time production confirmation and margin goals.

Provide technical packages for assigned projects each season, including midsole/outsole blueprints, upper pattern packages, color maps, and specifications.

Create and maintain BOM and fulfill development requirements in Centric system.

Collaborate across cross‑functional teams using VR production creation as part of sample rounds.

Participate in product presentations and reviews at seasonal sales meetings with retail partners and internal functions.

Work closely with category wear‑test analysts to manage product integrity, fit & comfort throughout development.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with 2–3 years of related experience or Master’s degree; alternatively 6 years of relevant experience without a degree.

Preferred background in Footwear, Biomechanical/Industrial/Chemical Engineering, or related field.

Experience traveling and working with footwear manufacturers.

Advanced knowledge of footwear product development and manufacturing.

Professional and efficient cross‑functional collaboration with Sales, Marketing, Production, and Operations.

Strong understanding of source country working methods and cultural norms.

Ability to critique, adjust, and evaluate technical blueprints (outsole, midsole, upper), patterns, and materials from a performance, manufacturing, and functional perspective.

Program experience: Microsoft Suite, Adobe Illustrator, 3D viewer, and Centric.

Workplace Location

Location: Must reside within commuting distance of the Portland office.

Work Schedule: Hybrid – 4 days in‑office per week.

Base Compensation $77,089.76 – $105,998.42 USD (annual salary). The base salary is one component of our competitive total rewards package.
