Who You’ll Work With The Information Technology organization is the technological foundation of our business and works in collaboration with our partners from across the company. The team drives technology and digital transformation, partners with business leaders to design and execute new strategies through IT and operations services and ensures the necessary IT risk management and security measures are in place and aligned with enterprise architecture standards and principles.

The Insurance & Retirement Solutions Engineering & Delivery team is responsible for the delivery, support, and day-to-day operational management of production and non-production environments of application and software supporting business functions of Corebridge Financial. Application Development Manager will lead the team of in-house and vendor developers to design and deliver business solutions while upholding architectural and coding standards.

Application Development engineering team is a group of Agile application developers who collaborate very closely with business, Information Security, and Infrastructure teams to deliver technology solutions to meet evolving business demand and transformational initiatives. The team is closely engaged with vendor software teams, in-house development teams across business functions and Application Management System (AMS) teams to ensure seamless delivery of projects to operational status.

We embrace modern Cloud Computing and DevOps-based principles to provision/onboard new systems, monitor activity, and report on daily operational status because we believe business applications should be highly available, should perform well, and should be managed for operational efficiency.

About The Role Application Development Manager will lead the team of in-house and vendor developers to design and deliver business solutions while upholding architectural and coding standards. The role oversees daily operational management of production and non-production environments supporting business functions.

Responsibilities

Lead, deliver and support applications across a variety of business functions.

Deliver exceptional results and problem-solving skills across a wide variety of application, software, and network-related issues.

Provide technical guidance and direction to development teams including architectural decisions, coding standards, security, and best practices.

Focus on clearly understanding requirements and, with constant motivation to do things right, and be driven to find the simplest designs and implementations that could possibly work.

Develop mindset and experience that can bridge the gap between run and build. Utilize and nurture that skillset across Java and .Net.

Loves engineering enterprise grade production critical systems, while continuously deepening expertise in the tools and technologies that enable reliable and scalable solutions.

Engineer, develop and operate scalable, highly reliable, and easily recoverable application environments that improve and innovate the way that business processes are performed.

Evaluate existing legacy applications, identify modernization opportunities, and lead refactoring or migration efforts.

Establish and enforce development standards, CI/CD pipelines and testing practices.

Facilitate architecture reviews, release planning and code reviews.

Engage in troubleshooting complex production issues that span multiple system and technologies.

Believe in the benefits of virtualized technologies, Cloud Computing, and vendor-based and SaaS solutions, when possible, to maximize the time of the team to engineer and operate better performing application environments.

Operational management approach for business applications innately leverages automated methods.

Skills And Qualifications

6+ years of experience hands on experience with leading and supporting variety of applications across business functions, with proven track record delivering exceptional results and problem-solving skills across a wide variety of application, software, and network-related issues.

Approach to problem solving is logical, objective, and mindful of appropriate policies and standards which govern your work.

Hands‑on experience managing and supporting enterprise grade Microsoft Windows and Linux/Unix environments within a managed service model, and knowledgeable in multiple server‑side platforms including Active Directory, SQL Server, Oracle, SharePoint, Exchange Server, Terminal Services, Citrix, WebSphere, Tomcat (to name a few) and/or other relevant tools/technologies.

Logging – Splunk, OpenSearch, Monitoring – AppDynamics, Bug Tracking/Issue Tracking tools similar to JIRA.

Familiar with the operation of virtualize environments (such as VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper‑V), Public Cloud environments (such as Amazon Web Services/AWS and Microsoft Azure), and modern service models for delivering infrastructure and applications (such as IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS).

Knowledgeable in several application architectures (Client‑Server, Web, Cloud Native and Distributed/Messaging) and the approaches that are used to maintain the availability and performance, the security, and recoverability each architectural pattern.

Experience using software development tools to scale and manage a highly efficient application support function.

Utilize Agile methods (Scrum/Lean/Continuous Delivery/SRE) where appropriate and reasonable for the situation at hand and to organize work.

Clear, accurate and thoughtful verbal and written communicator.

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or proven record of experience.

Work Location This position is based in Corebridge Financial’s Houston, TX office and is subject to our hybrid working policy, which gives colleagues the benefits of working both in an office and remotely.

Estimated Travel May include up to 25%.
