Job Overview The Mechatronics Engineer will provide mechanical and electrical support for the design, installation, start‑up, and debugging of manufacturing or research process equipment. Responsibilities include working with a multi‑functional team and applying principles of control systems, instrumentation, motion systems, robotics, programming, mechanics, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, and machine design.
Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement mechatronic systems to improve automation and manufacturing processes.
Coordinate task and work plan from team members to meet project schedules.
Provide hands‑on support for equipment installation and troubleshooting.
Design and integrate PLC/PC‑based process and automation controls.
Verify equipment build and layout against drawings.
Ensure safe work practices.
Update drawings and equipment documentation.
Prepare and deliver detailed project documentation, technical reports, and presentations to stakeholders.
Design and modify mechanical components using SOLIDWORKS.
Create electrical and pneumatic schematics.
Perform field wiring, assembly, and control setup.
Support automation integration and research development.
Required Skills
Basic electrical engineering principles.
Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Inventor).
Experience with control software (Rockwell Studio 5000, Omron, or Beckhoff).
Understanding of electrical panel layouts, schematics, system testing, and safe troubleshooting techniques.
Ability to execute and analyze experiments using scientific methods.
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
Minimal direction work capability.
Basic project management skills (scoping, budgeting, timelines).
Multitasking ability.
Knowledge of ladder logic, structured text, logic operands, electrical circuits, control logic, and mechanical systems.
Comfortable with tools and wiring in a lab or manufacturing setting.
Experience with Siemens, Mitsubishi, or equivalent PLC systems.
Primary CAD tool: SOLIDWORKS.
Desired Skills
Experience with mechanical equipment design, installation, start‑up, and debugging in a research environment.
Hands‑on wiring experience (cabinet building, field wiring, labeling, over‑current protection, shielding for sensitive circuits).
Familiarity with IEC 61131‑3 programming standards.
Programming experience in C, C++, Python, and MATLAB.
Knowledge of programming languages such as Allen‑Bradley, Beckhoff, Omron, C#.
Manufacturing, research, or automation experience is a plus.
Soft Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to convey technical information to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Experience preparing and delivering presentations and reports.
Collaborative teamwork across multidisciplinary teams.
Vendor relationship management skills.
Travel Requirements
Travel for 1‑week trips or shorter may be required for equipment check‑out, part purchasing/modification, or vendor visits.
Expect to be on‑site in the office during the week.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical/Electrical Technology, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
Minimum of 3 years industry experience focused on automation and control systems engineering.
Associate degree with significant relevant experience is acceptable.
Alternate consideration for candidates with nearly completed bachelor’s degree but 5+ years of practical experience.
Experience level: Level II position (3–7 years), Level III may be considered if within acceptable range.
Work Schedule 40 hours per week, typically Monday‑Friday, 8:00‑17:00.
