Base pay range $175,000.00/yr - $190,000.00/yr

The Retail Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the retail division, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, inventory accounting, and internal controls. This role ensures the accuracy of financial information, supports strategic decision-making, and drives operational efficiencies in a multi-store retail environment.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day financial operations for all retail locations, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.

Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.

Lead the annual budgeting process and provide ongoing forecasting updates.

Monitor and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as sales, margins, labor costs, and inventory turnover.

Manage inventory accounting processes, including cost of goods sold (COGS), shrinkage, and stock reconciliation.

Ensure timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.

Support audits (internal and external) by providing required documentation and analysis.

Develop, implement, and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.

Collaborate with operations, merchandising, and supply chain teams to optimize financial performance.

Manage and mentor finance staff, fostering professional development and performance excellence.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA preferred).

5+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, ideally in retail or consumer goods.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and retail financial practices.

Experience with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, Oracle) and retail POS systems.

Advanced Excel skills; familiarity with financial modeling and data analytics tools.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Leadership experience and the ability to work cross-functionally with other departments.

Preferred Skills

Experience in multi-unit retail operations.

Knowledge of retail pricing, promotions, and markdown accounting.

Familiarity with lease accounting (ASC 842) and fixed asset management.

Working Conditions

Hybrid or on-site role depending on location and business needs.

Occasional travel to retail store locations may be required.

Compensation Compensation:

$175,000 to $190,000 annually

Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications.
