Base pay range $100,000.00/yr - $135,000.00/yr
Overview The Interconnections Planning Engineer will conduct interconnection studies for offshore wind, energy storage, public policy transmission, and other new clean energy projects. They will perform power‑flow and short‑circuit analyses for substations, identify local and system upgrades to maintain reliable electric system operations, and organize developer site visits to Con Edison facilities. Additionally, they will participate in internal engineering support activities, interface with NYISO and merchant developers, and assess the impacts of new generation/transmission projects on the bulk electric system, developing recommended modifications for NYISO.
Responsibilities
Perform interconnection studies on offshore wind, energy storage, public policy transmission and other new clean energy technology projects.
Conduct substation power‑flow and short‑circuit analyses.
Contribute to analyses identifying local and system upgrades to maintain reliable electric system operations.
Participate in internal engineering support activities; interface with NYISO and merchant developers.
Identify new generation/transmission project impacts on bulk electric system; develop recommended modifications to NYISO.
Qualifications Required Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and 3 years of engineering work experience in the planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system.
Preferred Education/Experience
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Engineering and 3 years of engineering work experience in the planning, design and/or operation of the bulk electrical transmission system.
Relevant Work Experience
Knowledge of the design and/or operation of the electric power system.
Competent in using PSS/E, TARA, Aspen or equivalent power system simulation programs.
Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated analytical skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Develops and delivers effective presentations.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Licenses and Certifications
Driver's License required.
Additional Physical Demands
The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment and will be expected to work non‑business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
