Job Description The Division of Biomedical Informatics and Data Science (BIDS) within the Department of Health Outcomes and Biomedical Informatics (HOBI) at the University of Florida (UF) is seeking a highly motivated and ambitious
Postdoctoral Researcher
with a strong background in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (AI/ML). This exciting opportunity allows you to join an interdisciplinary research environment focused on developing innovative AI/ML solutions for healthcare and biomedical research.
Your role will involve developing and applying cutting‑edge methods to analyze large‑scale clinical datasets, including electronic health records (EHR), medical imaging, and unstructured clinical text. You will collaborate with informatics experts, clinicians, basic scientists, and translational researchers across the UF campus.
Key responsibilities include:
Leading and assisting with data modeling, AI/ML methods, and software package development.
Writing and publishing scientific papers, and drafting grant proposals.
Implementing AI/ML methods to solve critical clinical and biomedical problems.
Managing and updating source code to meet research needs.

Develop methods and tools to use EHR data effectively and apply AI/ML methods.
Implement methods into software that meets research needs.
Lead and participate in the design, implementation, and reporting of research and evaluation studies.
Contribute to scientific reports, conference papers, journal articles, and grant proposals.
Collaborate on projects involving data processing and software development.
Expected Salary $61,000–$64,000, commensurate with education and experience
Required Qualifications
Ph.D. in biomedical informatics, computer science, information science, data science, biostatistics, applied mathematics, physics, or a related STEM field.
Strong programming and data analysis skills (e.g., Python, R).
Solid understanding of machine learning, deep learning, and data modeling techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with EHR data, machine learning, deep learning, imaging informatics, and large language models (LLMs).
Familiarity with popular ML packages (PyTorch, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, Pandas, Keras, NumPy, SciPy) and traditional ML models such as SVMs and GBMs.
Experience developing informatics tools and software packages.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to engage with diverse audiences.
Successful Candidate Responsibilities
Utilize real‑world data (RWD) such as EHRs, medical images, and clinical notes with AI/ML methods.
Develop and apply AI/ML methods, including LLMs and foundation models.
Apply causal inference and discovery methods, especially causal AI for clinical trial emulation.
