The Treatment Plant Operator-Water operates equipment related to water treatment plant processes including clarifiers, belt filter press, and sludge thickener units under close supervision. Performs checks on equipment to ensure proper operation, makes minor repairs and adjustments, and assists plant maintenance. Performs cleaning tasks in various areas such as chemical rooms, water treatment units, pumping stations, electrical rooms, and groundskeeping. Requires knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment, ability to follow procedures, analyze problems, perform basic math, and operate water treatment equipment. General Description Performs skilled operational and regulatory work in testing and treating City water in compliance with regulations. Works under general supervision, developing work methods independently. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Six (6) months experience in operation or maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical equipment similar to that used in treatment plants. Special Certifications and Licenses Must obtain the Class C Water Plant Operator License within two (2) years of hire. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License class E or higher. Preferences Vocational/Technical certification or Associate's Degree in related fields. Possession of a C Florida State Operator license in Water Treatment. Possession of a C, B, or A Florida State Operator license in Wastewater Treatment. Water Distribution System Operator License - Level 3, 2, or 1. The role involves understanding, maintaining, and assisting in processing wastewater, performing maintenance, sampling, testing, troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with regulations. It includes clerical duties, data entry, and monitoring plant operations. Physical demands include walking, standing, and exerting force up to 20 pounds. Routine exposure to chemicals is expected.
