Classification Title:

Classification Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent and at least three years of appropriate experience.

Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute for the required experience at an equivalent rate.

Possession of a current Class B wastewater operator's certificate in accordance with Florida Statutes 403.101, 468.540, 552 and Regulation 61E1241, F.A.C.

Job Description:

Operate the Water Production Facility and/or Wastewater Treatment Facility in a safe and effective manner while maintaining facility discharge compliance.

Record all required instrumentation readings, review data and take corrective action based on analysis.

Perform required laboratory sample collection and analysis, interpret results and take corrective action.

Monitor facility systems, change processes from automatic to manual operation as necessary.

Conduct system checkout procedures, calibrations, and adjust equipment as required.

Maintain record keeping – data entry, logbooks, checklists, lab and calibration sheets.

Perform routine cleaning and painting of all facility systems: buildings, tanks, equipment, flumes, etc.

Operate and maintain sludge de‑watering equipment.

Maintain plant operation and security status during weekends, holidays and after normal working hours.

Drive UF vehicle routinely and provide tours to the public, students and faculty.

Perform preventive and/or repair maintenance on assigned equipment in cooperation with maintenance and instrumentation personnel.

Provide a state of Florida Class E operator's license.

Normal Work Schedule:

Monday – Friday 0600 – 1430

May work a four‑day shift rotation and/or a five‑day shift schedule, on call as required and emergencies.

Expected Salary:

$21.25 – $24.50 per hour, based on experience and qualifications

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent and at least three years of appropriate experience.

Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute for the required experience at an equivalent rate.

Possession of a current Class B wastewater operator's certificate in accordance with Florida Statutes 403.101, 468.540, 552 and Regulation 61E1241, F.A.C.

Preferred Qualifications:

Basic mechanical skills, water and wastewater treatment process knowledge, computer use, and safety rules.

Skill in mechanics, water and wastewater treatment process, preventative maintenance and computer programs.

Ability to operate water and/or wastewater plant, interpret process control tests, adjust accordingly, maintain proper logs, and communicate with preceding and following shift workers.
