Job Description:
Will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to assist in the design and analysis of rotating industrial machinery and ASME code‑stamped pressure vessels for a wide range of customers at the forefront of today’s process technologies. This position supports continued development and growth of the company’s product lines through engineering analysis, 3D modelling, simulation, and preparation of technical documentation. The ME will collaborate with on‑site manufacturing, process/chemical engineering and quality teams in a dynamic work environment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Assists with the design, calculations, and analysis of industrial rotating equipment under the guidance of senior engineering staff.
Supports pressure vessel design activities and learns to perform ASME Code calculations under supervision, gaining practical experience with Section VIII and related standards.
Assists in the selection of mechanical components including seals, bearings, motors, and pumps.
Prepares and maintains project documentation, including but not limited to fabrication and machining drawings, code calculations and design reports, customer drawings, equipment and piping layouts, general arrangement and assembly drawings, and installation, operation, and maintenance manuals.
Contributes to conceptual design development for prototypes and process equipment.
Assists in the design of fixtures and tooling for large‑scale manufacturing operations.
Collaborates with cross‑functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and process engineering.
Helps review or develop technical specifications for projects and equipment components.
Performs basic finite element analyses (FEA) under supervision (structural, thermal, etc.) and helps prepare findings for technical and non‑technical audiences.
Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements Education
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with 0-3 years of related engineering experience (internship or co‑op experience preferred).
Coursework, project, or co‑op/internship experience in one or more of the following areas preferred:
Industrial machine design
Design of dynamic or rotating equipment
Familiarity with ASME Section VIII, Division 1 (Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code)
Exposure to pressure and/or thermal stress analysis.
General Qualifications
Strong critical thinking and analytical problem‑solving skills.
Clear and effective written, verbal, and graphical communication abilities.
Demonstrated eagerness to learn and contribute across a wide range of projects.
Ability to organize and balance multiple tasks effectively while maintaining attention to detail.
Proactive in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, automation, and design processes.
Collaborative mindset, able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Technical Qualifications
Foundational understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals.
Ability to read, interpret, and generate engineering drawings under the guidance of senior engineering staff; familiarity with GD&T and drafting standards a plus.
Familiarity with 3D modeling and drafting software such as SolidWorks & DraftSight/AutoCAD (2D).
Exposure to PDM or PLM systems preferred (SolidWorks PDM experience a plus).
General awareness of engineering processes such as change control, quality assurance, document management, and CAD data organization.
Basic understanding of manufacturing processes such as metal fabrication, machining operations, welding, and assembly.
Apply sound engineering judgment toward manufacturability, part count reduction, and cost efficiency.
Proficiency with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Desirable Qualifications
Engineer in Training (EIT) certification with intent to pursue Professional Engineering (PE) licensure.
SolidWorks Certification (CSWA or higher).
Familiarity with pressure vessel design, including welding, material selection, fabrication, and inspection practices per ASME Section VIII, Division 1.
Basic knowledge of industry standards such as ASME B16.5, B36.10/36.19, and typical piping schedules, fittings, and flange types.
Awareness of common pressure vessel components and internals (e.g., nozzles, flanges, supports, jackets, heat transfer surfaces, seals).
Experience with Codeware COMPRESS or similar pressure vessel design software.
Proficiency in both top‑down and bottom‑up design techniques using SolidWorks.
Exposure to finite element analysis (FEA) or computational fluid dynamics (CFD), with a basic understanding of the underlying physical principles.
Experience working within one or more highly regulated industries.
