$92,319.00/yr - $171,057.00/yr Qualifications (Basic Requirements)

United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy English Language Proficiency: Psychologists must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005 - Part II - Chapter 3 - section A - paragraph 3j Education: Have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) - the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) - or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed For the purpose of meeting this requirement, the term "specialty area" refers to the specific specialty areas recognized by the accrediting body and not to specific job duties that might require special skills Currently - APA accredits doctoral programs in the specialty areas of clinical psychology - counseling psychology - school psychology - or combinations of two or more of those areas PCSAS accredits doctoral programs in psychological clinical science CPA accredits doctoral programs in clinical psychology - counseling psychology - clinical neuropsychology - and school psychology There are no job assignments in VHA that require the skills of a school psychologist Therefore - an applicant with a degree in the specialty area of school psychology is not eligible for appointment Or have a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and in addition - successfully complete a re-specialization program (including documentation of an approved internship completed as part of the re-specialization program) meeting both conditions: the re-specialization program must be completed in an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program, and the specialty in which the applicant is retrained must be consistent with the assignment Note: The applicant must provide an official transcript and/or certificate documenting the completion of the re-specialization program - which includes completion of an APA or CPA internship Additional pathways include various internship requirements and licensure expectations as described in the original posting Duties

The Pain Psychologist’s primary duties are to provide pain psychology services within the Integrative Pain Team Biofeedback is a major emphasis area for pain, mental health, and other conditions for which biofeedback is indicated Provide care through a combination of virtual/telehealth and in-person services as part of an interprofessional specialty pain care team in the Biopsychosocial Model of Pain Care and VA Stepped Care Model for Pain Management Deliver a variety of behavioral pain management strategies and collaborate with other team members to provide interdisciplinary pain care Direct clinical services primarily to the Integrative Pain Team, with potential involvement in other programs within the facility Provide a full range of psychological assessment services and diagnose mental health disorders based on patient presentation and need Refer to other mental health providers and specialists as indicated Provide comprehensive, evidence-based behavioral interventions for pain (e.g., Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Chronic Pain), including individual and group therapy Demonstrate an understanding of the biopsychosocial approach to pain care and work in an integrated, collaborative, team-based fashion with other pain specialists Provide psychological assessments as needed, including evaluations for pre-surgical implantable pain devices Provide pain-focused education to patients, family members, and significant others Deliver education on pain topics, including pain neuroscience education, the biopsychosocial model, and pain self-management Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment plans for adults with complex pain problems, which may include Opioid Use Disorder Collaborate with other team members to develop and implement an integrated pain management approach Perform proactive medical record reviews of patients at risk of opioid-related side effects and provide recommendations to primary care providers Support total rewards details as described in the original posting (various leave, telework, and incentive information) Seniority level
