Allergy Shot / Testing Medical Assistant

As an Allergy Shot / Testing Medical Assistant working in an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) clinic, your responsibilities typically involve a combination of administrative and clinical tasks. Administrative Duties

Patient Scheduling

Schedule patient appointments, surgeries, and follow-up visits, ensuring efficient use of time slots and coordination with other staff members.

Patient Registration

Greet patients, collect demographic and insurance information, and update electronic medical records (EMRs) accurately.

Insurance Verification

Verify patient insurance coverage, obtain authorizations for procedures or tests, and assist patients with insurance-related inquiries.

Medical Records Management

Maintain organized and up-to-date medical records, including filing, scanning, and retrieving documents as needed.

Billing and Coding

Assist with billing processes, including coding procedures and services accurately to ensure proper reimbursement.

Supply Management

Monitor inventory levels of medical and office supplies, restock as needed, and coordinate supply orders with the administrative team.

Communication

Facilitate communication between patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers, both in person and over the phone.

Clinical Duties

Patient Preparation

Escort patients to examination rooms, obtain vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature), and prepare patients for procedures or examinations.

Allergy Testing

Perform allergy skin testing, including prick tests and intradermal tests, and interpret results under the supervision of a physician.

Immunotherapy Administration

Administer allergy immunotherapy injections according to physician orders, following established protocols and safety guidelines.

Patient Education

Educate patients about allergy triggers, avoidance strategies, medication usage, and the purpose of allergy testing and immunotherapy.

Assist with Procedures

Assist physicians during ENT procedures, such as ear irrigation, nasal endoscopy, or throat examinations, by providing support and maintaining a sterile environment.

Documentation

Document patient assessments, procedures performed, and treatment plans accurately in EMRs, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and clinic protocols.

Safety and Infection Control

Adhere to infection control protocols, maintain cleanliness and sterilization of equipment, and promote a safe environment for patients and staff.

Qualifications

Education

High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a medical assistant program or certification as an allergy technician may be required or preferred.

Certification

Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) may be required. Additional certification as an Allergy Technician (CMAA) or Certified Clinical Allergy Specialist (CCAS) is desirable.

Experience

Prior experience in a medical office setting, especially in ENT or allergy clinics, is advantageous.

Skills

Strong communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask, proficiency in EMR systems, and knowledge of medical terminology and allergy testing techniques.

Licensure

MA License Preferred
