Summary The retail outside sales representative is responsible for all customer sales activities in an assigned territory for our retail Big Box customers. Working closely with the sales and support teams, you will achieve customer satisfaction, profitable revenue generation, and long‑term account goals aligned with company strategy, vision, and values.

Primary Customer Focus Primary segment: Big‑Box retail (Home Depot, Lowe’s).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Meet and/or exceed sales goals and objectives for the assigned territory.

Collaborate with the Regional Sales Manager to establish targets and an efficient schedule.

Achieve quota for sales, gross margin, and year‑over‑year growth.

Customer engagement.

Provide regular training to all store locations and new employees on product features, availability, and pricing tools.

Conduct ride‑alongs with manufacturer representatives and attend contractor events.

Ensure all department staff receive updates on product availability, new products, pricing, quoting processes, lead times, literature, and current in‑store displays.

Manage in‑store displays: identify space, follow approval procedures, and maintain cleanliness.

Coordinate with the Pro sales team on opportunities, project updates, and instrumentation.

Assist store associates with service/warranty issues.

In‑store service for partnered locations where Woodgrain supplies stock.

Maintain operational standards and use digital platforms to score store completeness.

Recommend service frequency changes for high‑volume stores.

Ensure accuracy of planograms and SOS kiosk entries.

Replenish catalog displays, remove excess packaging, and maintain stock presentation.

Strategic understanding of the business.

Internal: Master Woodgrain capabilities, processes, products, supply chain, data, pricing, CRM, and more.

External: Stay current on global and local supply chains, market trends, competition, and pricing.

Organization, prioritization, and communication.

Schedule meetings, travel, and office time efficiently.

Complete action items promptly and maintain urgency.

Allocate time for self‑development and preparation for sales calls.

Update CRM with new business opportunities, account information, and call notes.

Communicate effectively across business functions to satisfy customer needs.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree preferred (not required).

Minimum one year of outside sales experience.

Valid state driver’s license.

Competitive attitude, strong communication skills (oral & written), and excellent customer‑facing professionalism.

Proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Time management skills, self‑motivation, relationship building, attention to detail.

Significant travel with overnight stay required.

Other Skills and Abilities The sales representative must maintain a professional appearance, provide a positive company image, and support the sales process with accurate quoting and pricing tools. The role demands high energy, adaptability, and a passion for building strong customer relationships.

Supervisory Requirements None.

Physical Demands Regular talking or listening, lifting, stocking, culling, or inspecting material on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.

Work Environment High‑energy retail sales environment with frequent travel and on‑site engagements at customers and suppliers.
