The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) is seeking a professional, dedicated individual to serve as a full‑time Victim Advocate Supervisor in the Criminal Investigations Division, Victim Advocate Unit at the LCSO Headquarters in Leesburg, Virginia.
Under the general direction of the designated manager, the Victim Advocate Supervisor is responsible for the day‑to‑day operations and personnel of the Victim Advocate Unit providing case management services to crime victims, survivors, and co‑victims and assisting with identified concerns resulting from victimization.
Duties include:
Manages staff performance in accordance with County and Human Resources policies; provides regular feedback; completes appraisals of performance; ensures staff adheres to all applicable policies and procedures of the Department and of the County; ensures staff are trained and certifications are current; and advises manager of challenges with staffing, workload, or performance.
Provides performance direction, feedback, mentoring, coaching, and training to staff; promotes teamwork and collaboration.
Performs as Senior Case Manager.
Oversees case management support services to crime victims, survivors, and co‑victims and assists with identified concerns resulting from victimization.
Provides counsel, oversight, and guidance to Victim Advocates.
Determines and coordinates the types of referrals and services appropriate for victims, survivors, and co‑victims.
Using a trauma‑informed approach to crime victims, survivors, and co‑victims, provide information associated with criminal justice response, policies, and practices. Able to communicate the basics of court proceedings to crime victims, survivors, and co‑victims.
Supports victims by engaging in early access to services prior to involvement in the court system and coordinates referrals for long term services.
Leads victim outreach efforts. May keep victims apprised of the investigative process and changes in case development. Coordinates victim contacts and appointments as needed.
Serves as a liaison with criminal justice professionals, advocacy groups, clinical and other service providers, and community outreach services, in order to address the rights of crime victims, survivors, and co‑victims.
Understands, upholds, and assists in the education and exercise of victims’ rights.
Develops effective victim advocacy programs and trains staff, student interns, and volunteers.
Collaborates with sworn staff and the Criminal Investigation Division on strategic planning and initiatives regarding victim services and victim safety.
Makes referrals to community resources.
Conducts outreach to victims of misdemeanor and felony crimes.
Acts as a liaison among law enforcement, victims, and attorneys.
May attend court hearings to provide support as requested by victims and families.
May be required to respond to crime scenes and provide services to victim on scene.
Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
Bachelor’s degree in social or behavioral sciences, criminal justice administration, or related field; four (4) years’ experience in social services or criminal justice work; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree in social or behavioral sciences, and fluency in Spanish (oral and written) strongly preferred.
Selection process includes review of the Applicant Screening Questionnaire and County employment application, in‑person interview(s), and an intensive background investigation to include fingerprinting, credit check, driving record, and polygraph examination.
