Mental Health Specialist – Public Relations and Outreach*

Join a dynamic and dedicated team working to enhance the well‑being of our community. As a key member of the Department of Behavioral Health, you will promote mental health awareness to a diverse population, collaborate with community agencies, and support public relations efforts.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with community agencies and individuals to inform them about mental health education programs and services.

Support the department’s public relations team in creating, editing, and distributing multimedia materials.

Perform administrative and coordination tasks related to multimedia projects, including tracking project timelines.

Engage in community outreach initiatives focused on behavioral health and suicide prevention, ensuring essential resources and support are accessible to those in crisis.

Use strong presentation skills for public relations and community outreach.

Qualifications

Education

Option 1 – 30 semester units of completed coursework from an accredited college in behavioral or social science.

Option 2 – 60 semester units, including 15 semester units in behavioral or social science.

Experience

Option 1 – One year of full‑time equivalent experience conducting community outreach in mental health, substance use, social or human services, and one year of experience with multimedia production tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud or Canva.

Option 2 – Three years of experience conducting community outreach in mental health, substance use, social or human services.

Fluency in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish, Tagalog, or Vietnamese is strongly encouraged; additional compensation may be available for bilingual skills.

Experience with multimedia production tools (Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, video editing software).

Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.

Knowledge of behavioral health principles, crisis intervention, and community engagement strategies.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking and presentation experience.

Ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines in a collaborative environment.

Experience with photography, videography, or digital content creation for public outreach or educational purposes.
