Position: Assistant Cheerleading Coach | Work Year: Winter Athletic Season | Location: Massabesic Middle School, Waterboro, ME | Reports To: Middle School Athletic Director & Head Cheer Coach
Position Summary
Massabesic Middle School is seeking an enthusiastic, student‑centered Assistant Cheerleading Coach to collaborate with the Head Coach in developing a safe, inclusive, and competitive cheer program. The Assistant Coach will support skill development, game‑day performances, and foster a positive team culture aligned with district and MPA expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in planning and leading practices focused on cheer fundamentals, safety, and progressive skill development.
Support the Head Coach with choreography, stunting instruction, sideline cheers, and halftime routines.
Promote a positive learning environment emphasizing teamwork, sportsmanship, accountability, and school pride.
Ensure consistent supervision and safety of all student‑athletes during practices, games, transportation, and team events.
Reinforce academic, behavioral, and eligibility standards in collaboration with school administration.
Communicate effectively with student‑athletes, families, and staff as directed by the Head Coach.
Assist with organization and distribution/collection of team equipment and uniforms.
Comply with all district policies, MPA regulations, and NFHS coaching safety standards.
Qualifications Required
Prior experience in cheerleading, dance, gymnastics, coaching, or supervising youth athletics.
Ability to teach and demonstrate proper stunt and tumbling safety techniques.
Commitment to positive youth development and equity in school‑based athletics.
Successful completion of district‑required onboarding processes (fingerprinting, background check).
Preferred
Maine Department of Education Coaching Certification or willingness to obtain.
First Aid/CPR certification.
Experience working within school athletics or competitive cheer programs.
Compensation
Stipend per negotiated agreement with RSU 57. Details provided during the hiring process.
