Overview:
The Engineering Standards Manager leads a team of 4–8 subject matter experts (SMEs) responsible for defining, maintaining, and continuously improving the company’s solar design and engineering standards. This role ensures accuracy, consistency, and compliance across all plan sets and installations by owning the requirements library, standardizing tools and templates, and closing the loop between field feedback and engineering updates. The ideal candidate combines technical depth with operational rigor and leadership excellence—driving scalable, compliant, and high-quality solar system design practices. Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Development
Lead and coach a team of 4–8 SMEs specializing in electrical service/interconnection, structural review, and field support. Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and skill calibrations to develop technical mastery and consistent decision‑making. Define team goals, KPIs, and growth plans aligned with company engineering and quality objectives. Manage hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning to ensure appropriate coverage and expertise. Standards Governance & Documentation
Own and maintain the requirements library, centralizing AHJ, utility, and financial partner rules with supporting documentation, effective dates, and change logs. Publish structured release notes and implement controlled cutover plans for new or revised standards. Manage version control across all templates, labels, and decision trees to ensure accuracy and traceability. Enforce rollback and review protocols to maintain data integrity and audit readiness. Systemization & Process Excellence
Standardize and continuously refine plan‑set templates, interconnection decision trees, and QA/QC checklists to drive uniformity and reduce design variance. Partner cross‑functionally with Design, Permitting, Field Operations, and Product/Tools teams to embed standards into systems and workflows. Translate field and inspection data into actionable engineering improvements. Design and manage scalable workflows for variance requests and field escalations. Field Feedback & Quality Control Integration
Operate a structured escalation and variance resolution process to support field and install teams. Conduct root‑cause analyses on failed inspections and rework events; drive permanent fixes through updated standards, training, or tooling changes. Collaborate with QA/QC and Field Ops to ensure continuous alignment between design standards and field execution. Training & Knowledge Management
Develop and oversee a comprehensive training program for designers, reviewers, and field technicians. Create quick‑reference guides, curricula, and scenario‑based training modules to reinforce standards and decision logic. Lead quarterly calibration sessions across departments to ensure alignment and consistency in applying engineering standards. Performance Management & Continuous Improvement
Define, track, and report on key team performance indicators, including coverage, cycle time, and inspection pass rates. Run weekly operations reviews and drive continuous‑improvement initiatives through structured experiments (A/B testing where applicable). Utilize data and feedback to optimize workflows, tooling, and process adoption across departments. External Representation
Act as the company’s technical liaison with AHJs and utilities for clarification on electrical, structural, or interconnection standards. Stay current with evolving codes, standards, and regulatory updates; proactively implement changes within internal systems and documentation. All other duties as assigned. Requirements:
4+ years strong solar design/engineering (residential; storage a plus). Deep NEC (2020/2023) knowledge: service calcs, bus rules, supply/load‑side interconnection, labeling. 2+ years people management leading SMEs/technical teams (coaching & performance management). Proven ability to translate code/ordinances into clear, testable rules and checklists. Excellent cross‑functional communication; calm, structured, and data‑driven. NABCEP PVIP preferred. Structural/roof review familiarity (ASCE 7, attachment patterns, ballast/railless) preferred. Experience running standards libraries/rule engines or plan‑set automation preferred. Success metrics (first 90–180 days):
Coverage: 100% of active markets in the library with evidence + effective dates. Cutover speed: = 1 business days from external change to live standard update. Due Diligence done every 6 months for major bureaucracies. Quality: First‑pass permit = 92%, inspection pass = 94% (market‑adjusted). Team health: Quarterly calibration completed; 100% of SMEs with growth plans and documented SOPs; cross‑training matrix = 80% coverage across core scenarios. What We Offer:
Competitive compensation with bonus potential 401(k) option with employer match 9 paid holidays Attractive benefits package including health and dental coverage Opportunity for career development and advancement High‑energy, fun, and friendly culture LGCY Power is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity in the workplace. Consistent with that goal, all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, protected veteran status, gender identity or any other category protected by applicable federal, state, or local laws.
