Job Summary

The Reputation Management Coordinator is responsible for protecting and strengthening the district's reputation through proactive, strategic communication. This role focuses not only on crisis response, but also on anticipating risks, preventing negative narratives, and building public trust. Reporting to the Director of Strategic Communications, the coordinator develops and implements comprehensive communication strategies that include risk prevention, crisis management, media relations, and stakeholder engagement. The position requires a proactive and adaptable communicator who can manage high-pressure situations while also supporting routine district communications to promote transparency, confidence, and trust in the district. Requires availability during evenings and weekends as needed.

Essential Functions

Proactive Reputation & Risk Management

1. Anticipates potential communication risks and develops strategies to address them before they escalate.

2. Monitors media and social sentiment to identify emerging issues and advise district leadership on proactive messaging.

3. Creates communications that build confidence and prevent the spread of misinformation

Crisis Communication & Response.

4. Develops and executes crisis communication plans for emergencies (e.g., safety incidents, natural disasters, operational disruptions).

5. Ensures rapid, accurate dissemination of information via media releases, social media, email alerts, and other channels.

6. Assists with media communications during crises, coordinating press briefings and monitoring coverage to maintain trust.

Stakeholder & Community Messaging

7. Crafts clear, empathetic, and targeted communications for families, staff, and community members during sensitive situations.

8. Produces FAQs, resource guides, and recovery updates that support transparency and community trust.

9. Contributes to district-wide communications, including newsletters, blogs, website content, and social media, to promote key initiatives, events, and programs.

Collaboration & Outreach

10. Partners with district leadership to ensure messaging aligns with priorities and maintains a consistent, positive reputation.

11. Partners with law enforcement, public health officials, and community leaders to ensure consistent messaging during high-profile events.

Multimedia & Digital Engagement

12. Produces and edits digital content (graphics, photography, video) for web, social, and mobile platforms.

13. Ensures digital communications reflect the district's values and reinforce positive reputation.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in communications or public relations.

Experience:

Three (3) years' experience in public relations or strategic communications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong knowledge of reputation and crisis communication best practices Advanced writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to deliver clear, accurate, and empathetic messaging under tight deadlines. Ability to monitor, interpret, and respond to public sentiment across media and social platforms. Skilled in drafting messaging across a wide range of education-related topics. Proficiency with content management systems, social media, and multimedia production (photography, video editing). Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with staff, media, and community partners. Advanced problem-solving, time management, and detail orientation. Ability to manage sensitive information confidentially and with discretion. Strong presentation and public speaking skills. Familiarity with Duval County Public Schools' policies and procedures is a plus.
