Position Purpose The Senior Project Engineer will perform and plan commissioning of electrical systems. The role requires a self‑motivated, energetic professional with a deep understanding of building electrical systems design, construction, and commissioning.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities
Commission electrical distribution equipment and related controls, primarily in data center environments.
Review system designs for compliance with client facility goals.
Prepare plans and procedures for commissioning.
Conduct commissioning activities from design through occupancy, following industry best practices.
Attend factory testing, document procedures, conduct functional testing, perform instrument analysis, and prepare reports.
Understand critical power quality requirements and conduct thermographic surveys.
Document all field procedures, results, issues and observations.
Report on system performance and provide technical recommendations.
Coordinate and execute field activities with the Project Manager and team.
Prepare commissioning documentation and schedules.
Draft comprehensive test procedures for equipment and systems.
Lead commissioning meetings or technical presentations as required.
Submit and maintain daily commissioning reports.
Train and guide Associate Project Engineers and Project Engineers.
Respond to project team and client inquiries professionally and promptly.
Maintain compliance with safety requirements.
Manage knowledge of equipment such as generators, UPS, transformers, switchgear, battery systems, PLC control, ATS, STS, PDU, busways, RPP, grounding, and lighting control systems.
Key Equipment Knowledge
Generators and generator paralleling switchgear
High/Medium/Low Voltage Transformers
Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS)
Battery Systems
Voltage Switchgear, Main Switchboards, PLC control, ATS, STS, PDU, busways, RPP, grounding systems, lighting control systems
Qualifications Education/Experience:
BSc/MSc in Electrical Engineering with at least 5 years of mission‑critical project experience, or 7+ years in commissioning with mission‑critical facilities.
Experience in mission‑critical facility commissioning is essential.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Organized, detail‑oriented, analytical, proactive, and a problem solver.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, work with limited supervision, and lead junior engineers.
Knowledge of ASHRAE/BCxA commissioning guidelines, NETA test specifications, and distributed control systems.
Deep understanding of BMS and/or EPMS and test instrumentation.
Client‑first mentality and team player.
Certifications/Licenses:
Professional Engineers (PE) License or commissioning certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to walk up to 5 miles per day, lift up to 50 lbs, and wear required PPE.
Work Environment
Hybrid work environment.
Travel nationwide 50%‑75% of the time.
Pay & Benefits Pay range: $120,000 – $140,000 per year.
