The National Kidney Foundation of Hawaiʻi is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing kidney disease, improving the quality of life for those affected, and increasing awareness of kidney health through education, research, and community programs. We partner with local communities, healthcare providers, and organizations to provide support, advocacy, and life‑saving resources for kidney patients and their families across Hawaii.
Overview The Development Director is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing all fundraising and development initiatives to ensure the financial sustainability and growth of the National Kidney Foundation of Hawaiʻi (NKFH). This role leads efforts in individual and corporate giving, grants, sponsorships, and special events, while cultivating meaningful relationships with donors, community partners, and stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop and implement a comprehensive annual development plan to meet fundraising goals through individual, corporate, foundation, and planned giving.
Oversee donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities, ensuring long‑term engagement and relationship building.
Manage all aspects of special events and fundraising campaigns (e.g., galas, Kidney Walk, Kidney Cars promotions).
Identify and pursue grant opportunities; coordinate grant writing, submission, and reporting in collaboration with program and finance staff.
Lead strategic communications and marketing efforts in partnership with internal teams to enhance NKFH’s visibility and donor engagement.
Supervise and mentor development staff and volunteers, promoting a collaborative and high‑performing culture.
Develop and maintain fundraising systems, records, and reports within Salesforce or other donor management software.
Partner with the CEO and Board to identify, recruit, and engage donors, sponsors, and fundraising committee members.
Prepare regular progress reports, fundraising dashboards, and performance metrics for leadership and the Board of Directors.
Ensure compliance with nonprofit fundraising regulations, ethical standards, and donor confidentiality policies.
Represent NKFH at community events, corporate engagements, and public functions to promote awareness and philanthropy.
Other Duties
Support continuous improvement of fundraising systems, materials, and processes.
Participate in organizational planning, cross‑departmental projects, and leadership initiatives.
Engage in professional development opportunities to stay current on fundraising trends and best practices.
Uphold NKFH’s mission, values, and standards of professionalism.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in fundraising, development, or advancement, with at least three (3) years in a leadership capacity.
Proven track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising goals.
Experience with grant writing, donor cultivation, and event management.
Proficiency with donor management software (Salesforce preferred) and Office 365 Suite.
Skills and Abilities
