The mission of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department is to provide the highest quality clinical care in both general and specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology to central Virginia. In addition to the clinical mission, the department has the allied goals of providing undergraduate and graduate medical education in the field and advancing the field through basic and clinical research. Faculty have a responsibility to provide service to their profession and to the University Community.
Chief Purpose The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking qualified candidates to provide specialty care in General Obstetrics and Gynecology at VCU Health. This position is designed to provide care primarily in General Obstetrics on the Labor and Delivery Unit. This laborist position will be primarily shift work with both night and day shifts. Candidates should practice the full scope of obstetric services. This position will include participation in student and resident education as well as in the department's clinical research activities.
Responsibilities
Teaching : The faculty member will have teaching responsibilities to include actively participating in the department's educational activities, with particular attention to educating students and residents in their core educational objectives while on the labor and delivery unit.
Research : The person filling this position is encouraged to initiate clinical research projects, but this is not a strict requirement for the position. They are expected to participate in and facilitate other department research and contribute to scholarly publications/presentations.
Service : The faculty member will serve on departmental, health system, and university committees as necessary, as well as in a professional capacity in their field. The faculty member will be assigned to committees at the discretion of the division director and department chair.
Clinical : Full participation in the clinical activities related to inpatient obstetrics. Clinical activities are to be determined by the general obstetrics and gynecology division head and are expected to include inpatient care, surgery, and participation in nighttime shift duties.
Other : The faculty member will participate in department and institutional administrative activities as assigned by the division head and department chair.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Completion of an ACGME accredited OB/GYN residency
Eligible for Virginia medical license
Potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated talent and experience in teaching and commitment to research, and patient care
BC/BE by the American Board of OB/GYN
