Mission:
The mission of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department is to provide the highest quality clinical care in both general and specialty Obstetrics and Gynecology to central Virginia. In addition to the clinical mission, the department has the allied goals of providing undergraduate and graduate medical education in the field and advancing the field through basic and clinical research.
Chief Purpose This position is designed to provide care primarily in General Obstetrics on the Labor and Delivery Unit. This laborist position will be primarily shift work with both night and day shifts. Candidates should practice the full scope of obstetric services and participate in student and resident education as well as in the department’s clinical research activities.
Responsibilities
Teaching: Actively participate in the department’s educational activities, especially educating students and residents on the labor and delivery unit.
Research: Initiate clinical research projects; participate in departmental research and contribute to scholarly publications and presentations.
Service: Serve on departmental, health system, and university committees; perform professional duties as required by the division director and department chair.
Clinical: Full participation in inpatient obstetrics, including inpatient care, surgery, and nighttime shift duties.
Other: Participate in department and institutional administrative activities as assigned.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications
Completion of an ACGME accredited OB/GYN residency.
Eligible for Virginia medical license.
Potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism, and civility with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated talent and experience in teaching and commitment to research and patient care.
BC/BE by the American Board of OB/GYN.
