We are hiring immediately for a Programmer Analyst II to join the UTHealth Houston School of Public Health in Houston, TX. In this position, you will work with senior staff to create the coding required to extract data to support researcher questions.
Position Summary The Center for Health Care Data (CHCD) has a series of projects related to service contracts, outcomes research, and research on population health and health outcomes. The Programmer Analyst II works with senior staff to create the coding required to extract data to support researcher questions. Responsible for analyzing datasets, developing program specifications, writing and maintaining programs, and coding and testing programs. This position encourages creative thinking and depends on the ability to work productively with a wide range of team members including data scientists, experienced programmers, biostatisticians, and project managers.
Key Accountabilities
Consult with users to analyze needs and ensure programming and data extracts fulfill requirements.
Analyze and design system flows and develop/codify program specifications to meet agreed‑upon requirements.
Write, test, and implement computer programs; code straight‑forward to moderately complex programs and ensure adherence to departmental standards.
Test programming thoroughly, verify expected results, and resolve discrepancies.
Adhere to departmental standards to ensure consistent product quality.
Participate in structured technical and functional walk‑throughs with project team members and report status regularly.
Resolve problems that arise with existing data systems to ensure efficiency and proper functioning of programs and systems.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Knowledge of computer hardware, software, and programming.
Experience with SQL and statistical analysis programs such as SAS, R, or STATA.
Programming language experience: PL/SQL, Python, or other.
Knowledge of administrative healthcare claims, electronic medical records, and social determinants of health datasets is a plus.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or equivalent experience.
At least two years of programming experience.
Physical Requirements Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
Security Sensitive This position is a security‑sensitive position pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215, Texas Government Code 411.094, and other applicable regulations.
