Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is a leader in advanced aerospace and defense solutions. The Mission Systems Integrated Platform Solutions (IPS) engineering team seeks a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer II to design, develop, and document electronic equipment that supports military communications missions.
What You Will Do
Communicate technical topics clearly to technical and non‑technical team members.
Create military‑compliant designs incorporating custom machined/sheet metal parts and commercial off‑the‑shelf items.
Provide constructive feedback during peer reviews.
Work with designers and drafters to create, modify, and release documentation such as part and assembly drawings.
Interface with cross‑functional teams, such as Electrical and Systems Engineering, to ensure requirements compliance throughout the product lifecycle.
Work proactively and independently with an Integrated Product Team (IPT).
Investigate complex, open‑ended tasks and identify root causes of issues.
Qualifications You Must Have
Degree in STEM and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field.
Experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, CATIA, NX, or similar) and application of best practices.
Qualifications We Prefer
Active U.S. government‑issued Secret or Top Secret clearance.
Practical experience in design and thermal management for electronics packaging at board and/or chassis levels with strict SWaP requirements.
Background in commercial and military electronics packaging form factors, chassis design, and electromechanical applications.
Direct experience with printed circuit board (PCB) designs, including component selection and layout to meet mechanical environmental considerations.
Experience with aircraft integration or design of components for military airborne platforms.
Hands‑on experience designing for rugged environments (EMI, EMP, nuclear exposure).
Ability to apply and interpret GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
Knowledge of MIL‑STD‑810, RTCA DO‑160, and MIL‑STD‑1472.
Familiarity with analysis software, particularly ANSYS or similar.
