GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION :
Under the general supervision of the Director or designee, the Maintenance Co-Generation Engineer I operates boilers, turbine generators, turbo-motor compressors, and all related auxiliaries of the Co-Generation Facility.
Responsibilities
Maintain and repair all power plant equipment, including boilers, turbine generators, air compressors, refrigeration equipment, pumps, motors, and related auxiliaries.
Perform mechanical, electrical, and distribution system repairs.
Ensure the production of steam, power, electrical power, and refrigeration.
Operate high-pressure steam boilers with superheaters, economizers, and auxiliary equipment.
Operate steam turbine generators, condensers, water pumps, and auxiliaries; synchronize generators and monitor operations.
Adjust power factors, frequency, and voltage based on demand and consumption.
Operate electrical systems, including UPS, utility power from 13,800 volts, and emergency standby generators.
Operate centrifugal compressors, motors, and related auxiliaries, logging observations.
Manage cooling towers and fans for turbine and refrigeration systems.
Perform preventive maintenance, cleaning, and repairs on equipment and instrumentation.
Take readings on all power plant equipment.
Assist with maintenance tasks across trades as needed, without requiring specific licenses.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Hold a Massachusetts Third Class or higher Stationary Engineer’s License.
Possess 1-2 years of experience in a modern power plant.
Have thorough knowledge of, and ability to maintain and repair, power plant equipment with minimal supervision.
Be able to work rotating shifts.
Possess welding and machine shop experience.
Understand safety practices around high-pressure, high-voltage systems (13,800 volts), and rotating equipment.
Have experience with operation and maintenance of refrigeration and steam turbine-driven compressors, evaporators, and condensers.
Experience with large condensing, extracting steam turbo-electric generators, and auxiliaries.
Knowledge of high-pressure boilers with superheaters, economizers, dual fuel systems, pneumatic controls, and flame scanners.
