Consultant, Scientist/Geologist/Engineer
Join ERM as a Consultant, Scientist/Geologist/Engineer in Sacramento, CA. In this role you will work closely with Project Managers on contaminated site management, environmental health and safety compliance, air quality, and due diligence transaction projects.
Responsibilities
Provide technical assistance on site investigation and remediation, EHS compliance, air quality management, and due diligence transaction projects.
Conduct field work, including:
Subcontractor oversight
Utility clearance
Soil and bedrock drilling, characterization, and sampling
Monitoring well (groundwater and soil vapor) installation and test pit excavation
Soil, sediment, soil vapor, sanitary system, surface water, and groundwater sampling
Surface and borehole geophysical techniques
Aquifer testing, including slug tests, packer testing, step‑drawdown and tracer tests
Remedial systems performance monitoring
Prepare plans, permits, and reports for site characterization, hazardous waste, air quality, storm water, and wastewater programs.
Record data and assist in technical presentations of results; prepare reports, tables, graphs, charts, and hydrogeologic‑related maps.
Perform Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments to support property transfer transactions.
Provide general environmental compliance support to clients, including on‑site assistance as needed.
Conduct topical research, perform environmental compliance assessments, and implement follow‑up corrective actions to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
Support multiple projects within scope, budget, and schedule expectations and ensure quality standards on project deliverables.
Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agents, tenants, and clients during field activities.
Support ERM Partners‑in‑Charge and Project Managers to effectively manage projects.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental engineering, environmental science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
2 to 7 years of relevant environmental experience, including environmental field work.
Willingness and interest in field assignments.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
Effective organization and analytical skills; experience recording and writing detailed technical data and reports.
Strong hands‑on spreadsheet and database comprehension.
Detail‑oriented with good problem‑solving skills.
Ability to multi‑task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
Ability to succeed at a consulting pace, handling multiple project assignments while meeting strict deadlines.
40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
Valid driver’s license and/or ability to operate a company vehicle for frequent travel to client sites across a large geographic area.

Compensation & Benefits Base pay: $74,825 – $96,901 (USD) per year. Pay may vary based on education, qualifications, certifications, and experience.
