About the Role The ideal candidate is highly motivated, professional, courteous, and detail‑oriented. The position offers growth and involves assisting the plastic surgeon in a variety of surgical capacities.
Requirements
ACLS/BLS certification.
Knowledge of medications, supplies and equipment used in OR, recovery and instrument processing.
Familiarity with sterilizer, operating room table, cautery unit, laser, suction, crash cart, EKG monitor, defibrillator, etc.
Experience with sterile patient preparation.
Knowledge of operative and recovery room documentation.
Strict adherence to traffic control and sterile environment protocols.
Understanding of plastic surgery procedures and medical terminology.
Essential Functions
Assist in OR set‑up and clean‑up for each surgical procedure.
Handle and dispose of biomedical waste per policies.
Communicate and interpret physicians’ instructions to patients.
Assist physician during surgery and maintain smooth OR flow.
Serve as liaison between OR staff and suite.
Prepare and administer injections and medications as ordered.
Process and sterilize instruments and trays per established policies.
Maintain sterilization records and quality control.
Perform routine maintenance of autoclave and gas sterilizer.
Inventory supplies and order as needed.
Keep supply rooms organized and clear of clutter.
Assist medical assistants with vitals, medication, photos and consents.
Assist minor procedures (e.g., local, laser) in Room 5.
Other duties as assigned.
Soft Skills
Calm and effective reaction in emergencies.
Establish and maintain relationships with patients and staff.
Communicate clearly and execute orders swiftly.
Work effectively as part of a fast‑paced team.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids and toxic substances. Full range of body motion, handling and lifting patients up to 50 lbs, standing and walking for extended periods, irregular hours.
