Administrative Services Officer 2 – EMS Billing The Administrative Services Officer 2 – EMS Billing is a Civil Service position with the Nashville Fire Department. The incumbent participates in a variety of administrative services essential to the direct operation of the department, including maintaining EMS medical reports and documents. The primary responsibility is to review and process transactions related to the payment of ambulance transport services and to update medical transport records for submission to a third‑party billing company.

Responsibilities

Basic understanding of accounting, debits and credits.

Process accounts receivable transactions.

Research missing billable items.

Process Injury on Duty claims.

Print daily worksheets to verify all transports are accounted for.

Review all EMS Transport Patient Care Reports (PCR’s) for completeness that would allow them to be billed.

Identify problematic PCR’s that need additional research to enable them to be billed.

Request missing patient demographic information from local hospitals.

Add addendums to PCR’s and/or billing records when information is corrected or added.

Understand and comply with HIPAA guidelines.

Answer customer phone calls and emails as needed.

Research various databases for patient demographic and insurance information.

Address work order requests from the billing company and collection agency.

Research prior billing or collection company inquiries.

Gather Medicare Appeal and other audit information requests.

Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree plus one (1) year of experience in budgeting, purchasing, accounts payables, payroll systems, or a related field.

Experience using Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).

Knowledge of database systems and electronic file keeping.

Knowledge of budgeting, purchasing, and payroll systems.

Additional experience may be considered in lieu of education (1:1 Ratio).
