Import Operations Manager – Air & Ocean

Company Overview
Our client is an international freight forwarder recognised for delivering compliant, reliable, and cost-efficient logistics solutions. With a strong presence across key global trade lanes, the company supports importers in manufacturing, industrial, and retail sectors through integrated Air and Ocean services.
Role Summary The Import Operations Manager oversees all import activities within the Dallas branch, ensuring operational accuracy, compliance with U.S. Customs regulations, and high service performance across Air and Ocean freight. The role combines team leadership, process control, and customer engagement to maintain profitable and compliant operations.
Key Responsibilities
Manage the daily operations of the import department covering both Air and Ocean freight.
Supervise and train entry writers, coordinators, and customer service staff to maintain accuracy and compliance.
Oversee HTS classification, entry filings, and post-entry amendments in accordance with CBP regulations.
Ensure timely customs clearance and delivery of import shipments through close coordination with carriers, brokers, and truckers.
Review and approve invoices, credit notes, and profit margins to ensure operational profitability.
Liaise with key customers to resolve escalations and provide shipment visibility and KPI reporting.
Drive process improvement initiatives, SOP updates, and compliance audits in line with company and federal standards.
Collaborate with branch management to support budgeting, resource allocation, and business growth strategies.
Qualifications & Skills
Minimum 5–7 years of experience in import operations within an international freight forwarding environment.
Strong understanding of U.S. Customs procedures, HTS classification, and import compliance (19 CFR).
Experience managing Air and Ocean import documentation (ISF, AMS, CBP entries).
Proven leadership skills with the ability to coach and develop operational teams.
Proficiency in CargoWise or other major TMS platforms.
Strong commercial and analytical acumen with customer-focused communication skills.
