Job Overview
MedStar Health is seeking an experienced full‑time Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The hospital, located in the heart of the nation’s capital, is a teaching hospital with over 900 beds and a major referral center for medically complex cases. It is a Level‑I trauma center, a Comprehensive Stroke Center, in the top 5 % of cardiac surgery programs in the country, and an ECMO referral center.
Essential Job Duties
Perform history and physical examination of patients.
Establish appropriate medical diagnoses based on patient history, chart review, physical exam, lab testing, and radiographic imaging.
Initiate and manage appropriate therapeutic interventions for various pathologies including respiratory failure, heart failure, shock, acid‑base disturbances, and renal failure.
Present patients on daily rounds with the ICU attending and multidisciplinary team.
Collaborate with all involved care teams including other consultants.
Perform bedside procedures including insertion of central venous, non‑tunneled dialysis, arterial catheters, chest tubes, and thoracentesis.
Communicate between healthcare professionals to promote safe patient transition between shifts, services, and/or levels of care.
Educate and supervise new graduate APPs and students where appropriate.

Requirements
Graduation from an accredited physician assistant or acute care nurse practitioner program.
NCCPA (physician assistant) or AGACNP (nurse practitioner) certified.
BLS and ACLS certifications.
At least one year as an advanced practice provider in intensive care.
