Job Overview

MedStar Health is seeking an experienced full‑time Critical Care Advanced Practice Provider at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. The hospital, located in the heart of the nation’s capital, is a teaching hospital with over 900 beds and a major referral center for medically complex cases. It is a Level‑I trauma center, a Comprehensive Stroke Center, in the top 5 % of cardiac surgery programs in the country, and an ECMO referral center.

Essential Job Duties

• Perform history and physical examination of patients.
• Establish appropriate medical diagnoses based on patient history, chart review, physical exam, lab testing, and radiographic imaging.
• Initiate and manage appropriate therapeutic interventions for various pathologies including respiratory failure, heart failure, shock, acid‑base disturbances, and renal failure.
• Present patients on daily rounds with the ICU attending and multidisciplinary team.
• Collaborate with all involved care teams including other consultants.
• Perform bedside procedures including insertion of central venous, non‑tunneled dialysis, arterial catheters, chest tubes, and thoracentesis.
• Communicate between healthcare professionals to promote safe patient transition between shifts, services, and/or levels of care.
• Educate and supervise new graduate APPs and students where appropriate.

Requirements

• Graduation from an accredited physician assistant or acute care nurse practitioner program.
• NCCPA (physician assistant) or AGACNP (nurse practitioner) certified.
• BLS and ACLS certifications.
• At least one year as an advanced practice provider in intensive care.

Salary

USD $117,000.00 – $180,000.00 per year.
