Overview
Production Manager – 1st Shift for Fabrication & Welding is a hands-on role overseeing multi-shift fabrication, welding, and CNC operations. Responsibilities include ensuring safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency; driving process improvements; mentoring emerging leaders; and delivering exceptional results across the shop floor. Key Responsibilities
Manage a team of 60-70 in fabrication and welding to meet production schedules, reduce process times, and maximize resource utilization. Partner with supervisors to evaluate and improve processes using Lean and Six Sigma principles, fostering a culture of continuous improvement. Define, monitor, and improve KPIs including OEE, scrap, rework, throughput, and first-pass yield. Oversee CNC operations and welding/fabrication practices to ensure efficiency, quality, and reliability. Implement Lean tools such as 5S, visual management, and standard work to stabilize and optimize processes. Research and introduce new technologies and automation to boost throughput and reduce costs. Manage departmental budgets and participate in strategic planning for capital investments. Ensure timely, high-quality execution of customer orders while resolving production delays and resource constraints. Lead, mentor, and develop supervisors and team members, including performance management and onboarding. Promote a safe, compliant, and productive work environment across all shifts. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree is highly preferred in Welding Engineering, Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field or applicable experience in lieu of degree. 3+ years of supervisory experience in fabrication, welding, or CNC operations. 5+ years of manufacturing experience with strong fabrication, welding and machining knowledge. Proven success leading multi-shift operations and improving KPIs through structured methodologies. Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement frameworks. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills. Proficient in ERP/MES systems and production reporting tools. Preferred
AWS certification or equivalent Experience with robotic welding systems or automation Background in engineered-to-order production Compensation & Benefits
