The Business Banker is responsible for proactively sourcing, acquiring, expanding, and retaining customer relationships by maximizing sales opportunities in an assigned area and ensuring a world‑class customer experience for all current and prospective clients.
Individuals in this role are subject matter experts on deposit, credit, and cash‑management products and support their assigned area branches end to end.
Responsibilities
Lead as the subject matter expert across a broad sales area of assigned branches, working with branch stakeholders and area partners such as Wealth Management and Mortgage.
Partner with cross‑retail segment area peers spanning Wealth Management, Consumer, and Mortgage to optimize relationships and execute the sales plan.
Accountable to scorecard metrics and KPIs as defined by senior management.
Support the development of small business knowledge and skills for the assigned branch area team through joint sales activities, training, and referral opportunities.
Call on your assigned book of high‑valued clients to deepen relationships, retain business, and proactively uncover future needs, roadblocks, or risks.
Educate and introduce clients to appropriate products and services that fit their needs, growing both balance and revenue.
Manage credit requests up to $250K and work closely with senior business bankers on lending relationships over $250K.
Develop and execute an integrated sales plan to achieve scorecard results, acquire new-to‑bank clients, and target industry sectors.
Adhere to sales management routines, practices, and protocols for business banking to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
Proactively manage a portfolio of high‑value clients, expanding business banking relationships while ensuring customer satisfaction and retention.
Foster teamwork and business banking knowledge in all assigned branches to ensure a positive customer experience and maintain client service scores.
Collaborate with consumer and wealth business partners to deepen client relationships.
Work closely with the credit/risk team and branches to facilitate loan closings, including pipeline management, loan escalations/appeals, advocacy, application quality, and pricing issues.
Strictly adhere to internal control policies, including account opening and credit protocols, accurate collection, completion, and updating of all required documentation.
Appropriately assess risk when making business decisions, demonstrating consideration for the firm’s reputation and safeguarding Citi’s clients and assets. Drive compliance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations, applying sound ethical judgment and reporting control issues with transparency.
Qualifications
5–8 years of experience, preferably 2–5 years in banking or 2–3 years in business banking.
Exceptional consulting skills; ability to probe, listen, clarify, and present information to advance sales transactions and deepen relationships.
Strong analytical skills and ability to assimilate complex financial and company operating information.
Professional presentation skills.
Strong working knowledge of credit structuring and processing; credit training preferred.
Highly effective communication and influence skills.
Customer‑oriented and responsive.
Superior organizational skills.
Excellent business development skills.
Must be registered as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (Registry) before engaging in mortgage loan originator activities, and must renew that registration annually.
Education
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Compensation & Benefits Salary Range:
$98,960.00 – $148,440.00 (annual base salary)
