The family is seeking a compassionate, professional, and highly experienced caregiver to provide full-time support for an elderly woman in Santa Barbara, CA, who is in the early stages of Alzheimer's. This is a special role requiring not only strong memory care expertise, but also a warm, trustworthy personality and the ability to form a genuine connection with the client and her family. Most importantly, the ideal candidate will develop such a strong, trusting relationship with the client that she feels completely comfortable and secure when her husband needs to leave the house. The family needs someone who can become her trusted companion and provide that sense of security. This is a long-term position requiring consistency - the same caregiver every day, not rotating staff. The family seeks to build a lasting relationship with the right person. Key Responsibilities
Compensation & Employment Details
$35 – $45 per hour (based on experience and certifications) Long-term stability with opportunities for role growth as care needs evolve Consistent, single caregiver position (not rotating staff) Primary Goal: Relationship Building & Family Support
Develop a strong, trusting relationship that allows her to feel secure when her husband leaves Give the husband respite and personal time with complete peace of mind Collaborate with family and healthcare professionals as needs evolve Companionship & Engagement
Provide daily interaction and companionship Engage her in activities she enjoys: art, music, dance, and other hobbies Focus on comfort and enjoyment Meet her where she is emotionally and cognitively each day Note: Cognitive stimulation approach to be discussed during onboarding - priority is comfort, not "homework" Personal Care & Wellness
Physical capability required: Must be able to lift her if she falls Provide fall prevention and careful physical support Assist with transfers when required (in/out of bath, chair, etc.) Assist with daily hygiene including bathing as required Support with dressing, grooming, and mobility Ensure regular meals Support healthy routines: exercise, rest, nutrition, and hydration Provide medication reminders and monitor adherence Observe and report changes in behavior, mood, or health Household & Daily Support
Prepare balanced, healthy meals and snacks Help with household tasks: laundry, dishes, tidying, organization Run errands, including grocery shopping and pharmacy pickups Provide safe, reliable transportation to appointments or outings Critical Safety Note
The client has a history of falls that have resulted in broken bones and injuries. The caregiver must be physically capable and vigilant about fall prevention and safety. Qualifications
Required:
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Home Health Aide (HHA), or equivalent credential 5+ years of dedicated experience in dementia or Alzheimer's care Physical ability to safely lift and transfer an adult (critical requirement) Demonstrated understanding of memory care best practices, safety, and behavioral strategies Exceptional trustworthiness, discretion, and reliability Patience, empathy, and ability to adapt as her condition evolves Valid driver's license with clean driving record; reliable transportation Commitment to being a consistent, daily presence (not interested in rotating caregivers) Strongly Preferred:
CPR and First Aid certification Experience building trust with Alzheimer's patients who experience separation anxiety A genuine passion for working with seniors and enhancing quality of life Position Benefits
