Job Description

Phlebotomist is responsible for accurate collection and handling of patient laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing according to established best practice in a manner that enhances patient and caregiver engagement in an experienced manner.

Essential Functions

  • Accurately collecting patient specimens for diagnostic testing while working in a professional medical environment.
  • Performing specimen collection using techniques such as venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swab collections. Collecting specimens from patients of various acuities, including Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Inpatient – including newborns and patients in intensive care.
  • Adhering to personal protective requirements in inpatient and/or outpatient settings, including gowns, gloves, lab coats, face shields, and masks.
  • Communicating procedures and instructions with patients and family members and demonstrating empathy during every interaction.
  • Providing opportunities for growth and developing skills such as patient or client registrations, participation in CODE response teams, training as a clinical coach or preceptor, specimen processing, participation in special projects, quality assurance processes, waived testing, technical writing, downtime planning, continuous improvement projects, and other laboratory responsibilities as required by the site or assigned by the team or department leader.
  • Demonstrating organizational skills, navigating multiple computer systems, teamwork, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Managing stressful situations professionally.
  • Taking on-call shifts and participating in holiday rotations, according to department or facility needs.
  • Performing advanced collection and troubleshooting techniques such as bilateral nares or non-standard kit collection.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, Preferred.
  • Twelve months of phlebotomy experience, phlebotomy training or national certification as approved by manager/supervisor, Preferred.
  • BLS Required

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need to see, read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors requiring verbal communication, hearing and understanding spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, especially during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy, including frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients and carry supplies, potentially heavy items.
  • Require walking and assisting with transporting/ambulating patients, pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, navigating crowded rooms.
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle requiring sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Clinic Wynn, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Pay

Base pay range: $18.00/hr - $24.00/hr. Hourly range: $18.75 - $24.37.
