Job Description
Phlebotomist I is responsible for accurate collection and handling of patient laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing according to established best practice in a manner that enhances patient and caregiver engagement.
Job Specifics
- Part time - Days vary - Hours: 4am - 1230pm and every other weekend.

Essential Functions
- Accurately collect patient specimens for diagnostic testing while working in a professional medical environment. This position functions as part of a dynamic and engaging team with a workload that ranges from fast‑paced hospital settings and high/low volume clinics. Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement.
- Perform specimen collection using techniques such as venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swab collections from patients of various acuities, including Outpatient, Emergency Department, Inpatient (including newborns, intensive care, and other hospital areas). Adhere to laboratory compliance and safety regulations.
- Adhere to personal protective requirements in inpatient and/or outpatient settings, including gowns, gloves, lab coats, face shields, and masks.
- Communicate procedures and instructions with patients and family members and demonstrate empathy during every interaction. Develop skills such as patient registration, participation in CODE response teams, training and mentoring new staff, specimen processing, and participation in special projects.
- Perform all other laboratory responsibilities as required by site or assigned by the team or department leader.
- Demonstrate organizational skills, navigation of multiple computer systems, teamwork, and maintenance of a clean and safe work environment. Resilience and professional management of stressful situations are essential.

Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Six months of phlebotomy experience, phlebotomy training, or national certification as approved by manager/supervisor.
Physical Requirements
- Ongoing need to see, read information, assess patient needs, operate monitors, and identify equipment and supplies.
- Frequent verbal communication and understanding of spoken information, alarms, and emergency situations.
- Manual dexterity for manipulating complex equipment and frequent computer use for documenting patient care.
- Lifting and transferring patients and supplies up to heavy weights.
- Assisted transport and ambulation of patients, including pushing and pulling gurneys and equipment.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- For drivers: driving vehicle and reading signs and traffic signals.

Hours & Compensation
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 28
Hourly Rate: $18.81 - $24.37 (dependent on experience)
